In this capacity, the individual serves as the Bank's center of excellence for alternative investments, helping to drive asset growth, enhance portfolio outcomes, and elevate the quality of investment advice delivered to clients.

Further, the individual shall work closely with the Relationship Managers (RM), Investment Advisors (IA) and Fund Specialists (FS), which aim to identify investment opportunities, delivering expert portfolio guidance, and promoting the effective adoption of alternative investment solutions across the client franchise.

The Alternatives Specialist reports to Head of Alternatives Specialist (Asia & Middle East).

N.B: For the avoidance of doubt, any reference to function/team in this document refers to Alternatives Specialists.

YOUR CHALLENGE

People management

• Contribute to the strengthening of the team spirit and the fostering of a collaborative work environment
• Record management duties of fund documentations as part of the team’s shared responsibilities

Client management (internal & external)

• Act as the subject matter expert for Alternative Investments, with a focus on Private Markets and Hedge Funds, serving as a trusted partner to RM, IA, FS and Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) clients
• Drive the adoption of alternative investments within client portfolios by providing portfolio-based advisory and strategic asset allocation guidance to RMs, IAs, and clients
• Develop and maintain customized investment proposals and portfolio recommendations tailored to clients' investment objectives, risk profiles, and overall portfolio construction needs
• Partner closely with RMs and IAs to deliver sophisticated investment advice during client meetings, portfolio reviews, conference calls, and prospecting discussions
• Enhance the knowledge and advisory capabilities of RMs and IAs through regular training, product education, and guidance on positioning alternative investment solutions and broader thematic strategies
• Deliver presentations and investment updates to RMs, IAs, and other internal stakeholders during regular morning meetings, investment forums, and business updates across Asia and Middle East.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with alternative asset managers and industry partners to stay abreast of market developments, identify new investment opportunities, and support client engagement initiatives.
• Organise and host client events, investment seminars, conferences, and manager roadshows in partnership with third-party asset managers to showcase the Bank's alternative investment capabilities and thought leadership

Business management

• Support the team’s strategic objectives and operational goals, driving business outcomes and results
• Identify, evaluate, and champion investment opportunities and thematic ideas within the Bank's alternative investment offerings, translating market insights into actionable recommendations for clients and frontline teams
• Produce and distribute timely market commentaries, investment insights, and thematic publications covering alternative investments, macroeconomic developments, and portfolio strategy considerations

Regulatory responsibilities &/or risk management

• Meet all legal, regulatory and compliance standards/requirements
• Adhere to the standards and expectations outlined in the relevant user manuals and guidelines
• Demonstration of appropriate values and behaviours including but not limited to standards on honesty and integrity, due care and diligence, fair dealing (treating customers fairly), management of conflicts of interest, competence and continuous development, adequate risk management, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Professional & technical

• University degree holder or above and professional background with 5~8+ years of experience in Alternative Investments, preferably covering Private Markets, Hedge Funds, or multi-alternative solutions within a private banking, wealth management, asset management, or institutional investment environment
• Strong understanding of portfolio construction, asset allocation, and the role of alternative investments within diversified client portfolios
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex investment concepts effectively to clients, relationship managers, and investment professionals
• Excellent presentation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
• Strong analytical, writing, and investment research capabilities
• Language Skills: English, Mandarin and Cantonese
• Certified Private Wealth Professional (CPWP) certification preferred

Regulatory

• HKMA / SFC licensed representative
• Familiar with regulatory expectations and requirements
• Cross border rules and regulations

This is an in-scope position under the Mandatory Reference Checking Scheme (MRC Scheme) whereby applicants will be required to undergo reference checks from previous/and or current employers (Authorized Institutions) covering the past seven years.

MRC Scheme is a standardized reference-checking arrangement that is designed to support the integrity of “authorized institutions” regulated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). At a high level, the MRC Scheme requires an In-Scope Institution intending to hire an individual for certain relevant positions to conduct a mandatory reference check on that individual, by requesting information about them from each relevant former and current employer.
