This role is open to candidates based in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa or Winnipeg.\nAs a Senior Java Developer within our Logistics domain, you will play a key role in architecting, developing, and operating the core services and distributed systems that power delivery areas & fees related calculations. You will own backend systems end-to-end, from system architecture and API design to deployment, observability, and performance optimization, ensuring high availability and low-latency execution across our platform.\nYour mission is to deliver robust, performant, and resilient Java-based services, working closely with cross-functional teams of engineers, product managers, and data analysts to ship critical backend infrastructure that our internal operators and the wider logistics platform rely on every day. You will champion modern Java standards, system reliability, and software engineering best practices, while mentoring team members and helping shape the technical direction of backend engineering within the organization.\nIn short, you’ll combine deep Java and backend expertise with a strong system design mindset to power mission-critical logistics operations at scale.\nLocation: Remote - Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario\nReporting to: Technology Manager\nThese are some of the key components of the position:\nMaintain existing and develop new microservices using Java 21. Extend the functionality of existing applications per Business requests.\nMaintain existing and develop new infrastructure resources on the AWS platform using Terraform.\nWork with a microservices architecture using REST API and Message Brokers.\nDesign, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services and APIs using Java.\nParticipate in architectural decisions, RFCs, and technical design reviews across the Logistics domain\nCollaborate with Product, QE, and Data colleagues to ship high-quality releases on a continuous delivery cadence\nOwn your work throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from technical design and planning to market release.\nReview the code of peers in a team. \nSupport and mentor team members, helping grow backend engineering as a discipline\nIdentify improvements, highlight risks vs benefits, and translate them into technical requirements.\nWork with the product team, providing technical knowledge and expertise, helping to design the future of our products.\nParticipate in paid on-call rotation.\nWhat will you bring to the team?\n7+ years of hands-on experience architecting and building scalable, high-performance enterprise applications and leading complex software development projects.\nBe curious, with a strong appetite for new knowledge.\nStrong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, design patterns, testing, and debugging.\nSolid understanding of consuming, producing, and designing RESTful web services.\nExperience with Java (Spark or Quarkus framework).\nExperience with streams and list operations is a nice-to-have.\nSolid grounding in design patterns for designing distributed systems (bounded contexts, sagas, eventual consistency, and the outbox pattern) (must have).\nExperience in Domain-Driven Design (DDD) is a strong nice-to-have.\nExperience with message brokers (Kafka, Amazon SQS, RabbitMQ).\nProduction experience deploying to AWS and running services on Kubernetes (EKS).Experience with System logging and monitoring using tools such as Grafana, AWS CloudWatch and DataDog.\nExperience with data persistence in relational, MySQL, unstructured and/or cached forms.\nStrong experience with Redis for caching, rate limiting and distributed locks is a plus.\nKnowledge of Infrastructure-as-a-Code (Terraform) is nice-to-have.\nUnderstanding of continuous delivery, deployment, and integration.\nFamiliarity with Version Control (Git) and related tools.\nAI & Modern Engineering Capabilities\nHands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex or similar is required\nExperience making repositories agent-ready, maintaining clear in-repo documentation, AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md files, structured code conventions, and reproducible local setups so AI coding agents can contribute effectively\nExperience using AI agents to drive end-to-end engineering tasks (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor agents, or similar) for code generation, refactoring, debugging, and automated PR workflows\nExperience integrating AI into backend engineering workflows (e.g., AI-assisted code review, test generation, log/incident analysis, intelligent on-call triage)\nUnderstanding of prompt engineering and evaluation of AI-generated outputs in a software engineering context\nAwareness of best practices for AI-driven development, including reliability, reproducibility, security, and governance, particularly as they apply to production backend systems\nAt JET, this is on the menu:\nOur teams forge connections internally and work with some of the best-known brands on the planet, giving us truly international impact in a dynamic environment.\nFun, fast-paced and supportive, the JET culture is about movement, growth and about celebrating every aspect of our JETers.
