Our bow-to-stern capabilities include acoustic and sonar protection systems, propulsion systems, advanced composite structures, missile subsystems, canisters and launchers, and autonomous underwater vehicle subsystems. From concept through production, we combine engineering, materials expertise, specialized manufacturing, and large-scale testing to deliver mission-ready systems that reduce technical risk and support long-term operational performance.\nAs a Design Engineer, you will develop detailed three-dimensional models, drawings, bills of materials, and production documentation that support composite component design and manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, and project teams to enhance product performance, support prototypes, and identify opportunities for design improvement across maritime defense applications.\nSchedule\nThe work schedule follows a 4×10 configuration: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with every other Friday off.\nResponsibilities\nDevelops and modifies three-dimensional models and detailed engineering drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software.\nDesigns components and assemblies according to project requirements and applicable industry standards.\nCreates bills of materials and defines material requirements.\nCollaborates with manufacturing, quality, and project management teams to support production and engineering activities.\nSupports prototype development, testing, and engineering procedure creation.\nMaintains accurate design documentation, including drawings, revisions, and technical reports.\nIdentifies opportunities for design enhancements and cost-efficient engineering solutions.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.\nTwo or more years of experience in CAD design.\nProficiency in SolidWorks.\nExperience using additional CAD platforms such as NX, AutoCAD, CATIA, or Inventor is a plus.\nUnderstanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.\nProficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.\nStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a team-focused environment.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience in defense, aerospace, or manufacturing industries.\nUnderstanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).\nKnowledge of industry standards such as American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) or International Organization for Standardization (ISO).\nExperience with product data management tools such as SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM).\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to work at a desk for extended periods using a computer.\nAbility to move throughout office and manufacturing environments.The essential functions of this position must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.\n\nThis position requires U.S. person status under U.S. export control laws, including U.S. citizens and nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees.\nBenefits\nMedical, dental, and vision insurance\n401(k) with company match\nPaid time off\nHealth Savings Account (HSA) with company contribution\nFlexible Spending Accounts (FSA)\nCompany-paid life and AD&D insurance\nShort- and long-term disability coverage\nTuition reimbursement\nKarman Space and Defense is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
