Backed by decades of flight-proven and fielded performance, we design and build mission-critical technologies including launch systems, propulsion, payload integration solutions, UAV components, missile subsystems, and Safe & Arm systems.\nIn this role, you will design and develop propulsion devices and systems that directly support aerospace and defense programs. You will drive system-level ballistic modeling, develop conceptual and detailed designs, support structural analysis, and collaborate with cross-functional teams from concept through final delivery. Your work ensures propulsion systems meet stringent performance, reliability, manufacturing, and customer requirements.\nResponsibilities\nSupports propulsion system design activities across the mechanical engineering group.\nConceptualizes, designs, and develops propulsion devices and systems based on customer and program requirements.\nPerforms full system ballistic modeling, including propellant sizing, nozzle sizing, insulation and inhibitor specifications, and overall performance analysis.\nSupports detailed structural and stress analysis in collaboration with mechanical engineering.\nCreates 2-D layouts and 3-D solid models to define propulsion concepts and designs.\nPerforms mechanical engineering calculations and analyses to validate safe system operation.\nAssists in system-level design efforts, owning propulsion systems and components.\nDocuments performance requirements, test procedures, plans, test reports, and compliance evidence.\nReviews designs for cost, manufacturability, and quality assurance considerations.\nCreates engineering drawings, bills of materials, manufacturing requirements, and inspection specifications.\nSupports manufacturing, assembly, testing, and deployment throughout the propulsion system lifecycle.\nProvides technical support to internal teams, external partners, and business development activities.\nSupports bench and field testing of propulsion components and systems.\nMentors junior engineers and provides technical guidance in propulsion design and analysis.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience and registration.\nTypically 2-5 years of aerospace or defense engineering experience.\nSolid understanding of propulsion systems and ballistics modeling.\nProven experience designing robust mechanical hardware.\nKnowledge of military and commercial design specifications.\nProficiency with SolidWorks and experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).\nKnowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools for mechanical systems.\nA current U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.\nPreferred Qualifications\nMaster’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.\nBenefits\nMedical, dental, and vision insurance\n401(k) with company match\nPaid time off\nHealth Savings Account (HSA) with company contribution\nFlexible Spending Accounts (FSA)\nCompany-paid life and AD&D insurance\nShort- and long-term disability coverage\nTuition reimbursement\nKarman Space and Defense is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
