We are building a fleet of dual-use multipurpose robotic space vehicles to create the future where maneuvering, upgrading, refueling, resupply and exploration are as routine as they are on Earth. Getting to space and overcoming the gravity well is only half the story. What you do there is the future. We are not building the trains. We are building the machines that lay down the tracks. By developing the foundational capabilities that make sustained, responsive operations possible, we enable a new era of space exploration that strengthens national security and ensures freedom of action in an increasingly contested domain.\nKatalyst Culture:\nWorking at Katalyst is intense, hands-on, and deeply rewarding. You’ll take real ownership and see your work move from concept to operations in an environment where the problems are hard and the impact is real. We value humility, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way, even when it’s harder. You’ll work closely with thoughtful, driven teammates who push each other to do their best. \nWhat You’ll Do \nLead and grow the Mechanical Engineering organization spanning robotics, bus design, arrays and other space mechanisms. \nOwn execution across multiple spacecraft mechanical development efforts. \nEstablish engineering standards and best practices. \nMentor engineers across all experience levels. \nDrive architecture and major technical decisions. \nBalance schedule, cost, manufacturability, and technical risk. \nCoordinate closely with Systems, Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Test. \nLead design reviews and technical risk assessments. \nBuild a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement. \nSupport integration, qualification, environmental testing, and flight readiness. \nRemove roadblocks for engineering teams while maintaining accountability. \nWhat We’re Looking For \nRequired \n8+ years of mechanical engineering experience in aerospace or complex hardware development. \n3-5+ years leading engineering teams. \nExtensive spacecraft or aerospace structural/mechanical design experience. \nStrong CAD and GD&T expertise. \nDeep understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes. \nExperience leading qualification and environmental testing. \nStrong mechanical fundamentals and systems engineering intuition. \nDemonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering efforts. \nExperience making high-consequence engineering decisions and tradeoffs. \nYour Ideal Background \nPreferred \nFlight hardware ownership from concept through launch. \nStartup or rapid-development environment. \nExperience managing multiple simultaneous programs. \nExperience hiring and developing engineering talent. \nFamiliarity with propulsion systems, thermal systems, avionics integration, optics, or deployable structures. \nFamiliarity with robotics designed for a space environment. \nExperience establishing engineering processes and design standards. \nExperience designing and implementing space mechanisms. \nExperience designing for launch environments and qualification. \nAdditional Requirements: Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed. \nCompensation and Benefits: Your base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. The anticipated salary range for this role is $139,000 - $225,000 annually.\nBase salary is just one part of your total rewards package at Katalyst. You will also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of the Employee Stock Option and Equity Plan, as well as a relocation bonus and other discretionary bonuses. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, and unlimited Paid Time Off.\nAt Katalyst our work on projects involving the U.S. Department of Defense requires adherence to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), 22 C.F.R. Parts 120-130, which requires compliance with U.S. export laws before allowing employees to perform certain positions. Currently, our available roles necessitate access to ITAR-controlled information, and as a result, Katalyst would have to ensure any non-US person is authorized access to ITAR information before the commencement of employment. We are committed to equal employment opportunities and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4605,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":8,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":true,"industries":["Contract Manufacturing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-11T13:29:32Z"}],"liveness":{"score":8,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.225,"p_room":0.35,"age_days":56,"expected_fill_days":14,"reasons":["conf:11","stale_co","velocity","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":225000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/katalyst-space-mechanical-engineering-manager","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/katalyst-space-mechanical-engineering-manager.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T21:58:24Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4577,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":423,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
