{"id":1666287,"url":"https://alion.io/job/kbr-principal-mechanical-engineer","title":"Principal Mechanical Engineer","company":{"id":4344,"name":"KBR","domain":"kbr.com","url":"https://alion.io/company/kbr","size_band":"1001-5000","is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"Workday","truth_index":null},"role":"Industrial Engineering","role_family":"Industrial Engineering","seniority":"lead","employment_type":"full_time","work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Adelaide, Australia"],"countries":["AU"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":null,"salary_estimate":{"min_usd":78000,"max_usd":192000,"period":"year","method":"global_role_cell_scaled_by_country","sample_n":1961},"experience_years_min":null,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-10-02T06:07:27Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-10-02","last_verified_at":"2026-10-11T18:09:30Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":9,"trust":{"level":"ok","repost_count":null,"flags":[],"days_open":9},"description":"Title:\nPrincipal Mechanical EngineerPrincipal Mechanical Engineer\nAdelaide, SA\nWith a strong pipeline of work across the Defence, Water, Energy and Resources sectors, KBR is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Adelaide team.\nThis is an opportunity to take ownership of technically complex projects, lead the delivery of mechanical engineering solutions, and mentor developing engineers while working alongside some of the industry's most experienced professionals.\nYou'll play a key role across the full project lifecycle, supporting major infrastructure and industrial projects from concept development through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.\nThe Opportunity:\nAs a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of projects, with a particular focus on industrial facilities, process infrastructure and gas storage and supply systems.\nWorking closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams, you'll oversee engineering outcomes, review designs, support project delivery and contribute to the continued growth of KBR's engineering capability.\nKey Responsibilities:\nLead mechanical engineering design activities across all project stages.\nDefine scopes of work and provide technical input during project planning.\nPrepare and review concept, preliminary and detailed designs.\nReview and provide assurance of contractor-produced engineering designs.\nDevelop technical specifications and equipment selections.\nSupport construction activities through site inspections, testing and commissioning reviews.\nReview vendor documentation, technical submissions and shop drawings.\nMentor engineers and provide guidance across project teams.\nContribute to engineering standards, tools and continuous improvement initiatives.\nBuild strong client relationships and identify opportunities to add value.\nAbout You:\nYou are a Chartered or aspiring Chartered Mechanical Engineer with experience delivering complex engineering projects within consulting, industrial, defence, resources, energy or infrastructure\nYou Will Bring:\nBachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.\nStrong experience in mechanical engineering design and project delivery.\nExperience with gas storage, gas supply infrastructure and piping systems.\nSound knowledge of relevant Australian standards and engineering practices.\nExperience leading technical outcomes and coordinating stakeholder requirements.\nStrong communication and relationship-building skills.\nCPEng status or the ability to obtain Chartership.\nSecurity Requirements:\nDue to the nature of the work, applicants must:\nBe an Australian Citizen.\nBe eligible to obtain and maintain a Baseline Defence Security Clearance.\nMeet International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) eligibility requirements.\nAbout KBR:\nAt KBR, you'll be part of a collaborative national team delivering projects that strengthen communities, support critical infrastructure and help shape Australia's future.
