Programs include, but are not limited to, English Basics, Missouri Driver’s License Written Exam, Financial Literacy, English for CNA, and English for Citizenship. In these classes, the instructor connects with students personally and encourages them in their journey to learning American English.\nThis is apart-time position with an hourly rate of $20.28, with benefits.\nSchedule 1 (20-hours per week)\nTuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday: 8:30 am - 2:30 pm\nSchedule 2 (20-hours per week)\nTuesday, Wednesday, &Thursday: 2 pm - 7:30 pm\nSaturday: 9 am - 12:30 pm \nNote: Schedule is subject to change to cover programs. For non-emergency coverage, at least one week's advance notice will be given.\nLocation\nNorth-East Branch: 6000 Wilson Avenue, KCMO, 64123.\nJob Duties (Essential Functions)\nBe familiar with the English language development curriculum provided by the Library.\nResponsible for preparing adequately for classes each week.\nProvide quality English Language Development instruction to participants.\nResponsible for recording attendance according to department procedure.\nEnsure that the classroom is an open, welcoming, and inclusive space.\nWork with volunteer tutors to present a cohesive and inviting environment to learn.\nHold classes at the North-East Branch at various times of the day.\nRequirements\nExperience with literacy coaching, language learning, or tutoring is highly preferred.\nMust have good classroom management skills\nMust be able to work with and accommodate students of different skill levels at once\nExperience working with non-native English-speaking persons\nExperience working with volunteers\nMust have a desire and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds\nStrong interpersonal skills, including patience, empathy, and cultural awareness\nProficiency in English required; additional consideration will be given to individuals who are proficient in any non-English languages spoken in Jackson County, MO, including Spanish, ASL, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili\nExcellent written and oral communication skills and advanced computer skills.\nValid driver’s license.\nRequired Education and Experience\nTEFL, TESOL, TESL, or equivalent certification - currently pursuing or already certified.\nPublic library and/or customer service experience.\nExperience working with non-native English-speaking persons.\n2 years experience in teaching English Language coursework.\nBachelor's or advanced degree preferred and will count towards teaching experience requirement.\nWork Environment\nWork is performed at the North-East library or partner sites throughout the district.
