The Co-op will participate in requirements engineering activities, including collaborating with Co-opal customers to define and set expectations, accurately defining and documenting the technical side of the project, and identifying risks. The Co-op will also design, develop, and integrate test software systems for security system products.\nParticipate in panel development for a new product, a cloud-native security ecosystem.\nTake responsibility for designated software tasks from design through development, integration & test.\nTake initiative to test code against known usage, investigate faults/boundary conditions, and automate unit tests.\nFacilitate and assist in the task estimation process.\nWork in a cross-functional team environment comprised of software engineers, testers, and product managers.\nParticipate in technical project reviews and code reviews.\nWork with product and development teams to identify test cases for project requirements.\nIntroduce test strategies and innovative paradigms to meet the technical/schedule needs of the project.\nWrite embedded software (C, C++, Python) to automate testing and create tools to support testing and development of software/hardware.\nDrive the verification of electrical, electromechanical, and software platforms.\nDesign, execute and evaluate results of repeatability and reliability studies.\nTroubleshoot products and test equipment; propose and implement fixes.\nEngage a data driven approach to product performance, trending reports, and analysis of test results.\nLearning Objectives:\nThe Embedded Firmware Engineering Co-op will collaborate closely with a staff mentor to gain a depth of experience with embedded firmware design, development, and testing. You will also work with security panel hardware and gain experience with development in Linux and FreeRTOS environments. You will gain have the opportunity to work on a professional engineering team with seasoned engineers. At the end of the Co-op experience, you will be equipped to give presentation outlining a feature you built and receive feedback from your team.\n Requirements:\nPursuing BS or MS Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a technology-related field.\nGPA of 3.0 or above preferred. \nExcellent analytical skills, including analysis of existing software code and utilization of software tools.\nAbility to work independently in an organized and structured fashion, take ownership, and remain self-accountable to team goals.\nGood interpersonal skills within a cross functional team; initiative-taking approach to communication and handling conflicts.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills for both a technical and non-technical audience.\nHigh level of self-motivation, a drive for self-development and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.\nCollegiate-level experience or interest in at least one of the following:\nSoftware development for real-time embedded systems written in C / C++ using OOP principles.\nSoftware development for embedded microcontrollers including Linux.\nDesign and implementation of low power, battery operated devices.\nHardware schematics and design/implement associated with embedded software.\nIntegrating hardware and software using data buses and protocols such as SPI, I2C, RS-232, or DMA.\nTesting with commonly used electrical test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers etc.\nDebugging software, performing root cause analysis, and clarifying potential hardware related issues with the electronic hardware team.\nUnit and integration testing to include automation of test procedures.\n The U.S. based hourly rate for this role is between $24.00-27.00/hour.
