This role is approximately 70% Android development and 30% backend development, with a primary focus on developing and supporting applications running on Android POS devices while contributing to Azure-based backend services responsible for telemetry, device management, monitoring, and operational insights. The ideal candidate will have strong Android development experience, an understanding of payment ecosystems and POS hardware, and hands-on experience building cloud services that support large fleets of deployed devices. \nAndroid Development (70%) \nDesign, develop, and maintain Android applications running on POS devices. \nBuild secure and reliable payment and operational workflows. \nDevelop applications using Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Jetpack Libraries, MVVM, Coroutines, and Dependency Injection (Hilt/Dagger). \nIntegrate with card readers, receipt printers, barcode scanners, NFC readers, and customer-facing displays. \nDevelop and support applications on PAX devices and future Android-based payment terminals. \nOptimize application performance, stability, and responsiveness. \nTroubleshoot production issues across multiple Android device models and OS versions. \nBackend & Telemetry Services (30%) \nDesign and develop backend services that collect, process, and analyze telemetry generated by deployed payment devices. \nBuild APIs supporting device health monitoring, diagnostics, remote configuration, operational reporting, and fleet management. \nDesign scalable ingestion pipelines for device metrics, transaction events, logs, connectivity status, diagnostics, and remote management events. \nBuild monitoring and alerting capabilities that improve operational visibility across the device fleet. \nPartner with platform and data teams to expose telemetry data for reporting and analytics. \nRequired Qualifications \n8+ years of software engineering experience. \n5+ years of Android development experience. \nStrong Android development using Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, and Jetpack libraries. \nExperience building applications for POS, kiosk, retail, or specialized Android devices. \nExperience with MVVM, Dependency Injection, Coroutines, and Clean Architecture. \nExperience integrating REST APIs. \nBackend development experience using C#/.NET, Java/Spring Boot, or Node.js. \nExperience with Azure services and SQL/NoSQL databases. \nCloud & Platform Technologies \nRequired experience with Azure cloud services, with particular emphasis on Azure Application Insights. \nAzure Application Insights \nAzure Service Bus \nAzure Functions \nAzure Event Hubs \nAzure Storage \nAzure SQL \nCosmos DB \nAzure Kubernetes Service (AKS) \nPreferred Qualifications \nExperience working with payment devices, payment terminals, or POS hardware. \nExperience supporting card-present payment solutions. \nKnowledge of PCI-DSS requirements and secure payment processing practices. \nExperience working with PAX devices is a strong asset. \nExperience supporting Verifone, Ingenico, Castles, Clover, or similar devices. \nExperience with telemetry, monitoring, observability, Docker, and Kubernetes. \nIdeal Candidate Profile \nA backend-leaning Android engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of mobile applications, payments, device hardware, cloud services, and telemetry platforms.
