The architect must actively contribute to cross-domain architecture decisions and challenge proposed solutions when required.\nNetwork and infrastructure architecture are considered part of the overall solution architecture, not isolated technical domains.\nKey responsibilities\nTranslate business, application and solution requirements into technical architecture requirements covering hosting, connectivity, performance, availability, security, resilience, backup/recovery, monitoring and supportability.\n\nDefine target and reference architectures, reusable standards and technical patterns across sites.\n\nProduce HLDs and architecture documentation, and review LLDs and detailed technical designs.\n\nAnalyse impacts, dependencies, risks, architecture gaps, single points of failure and operational constraints.\n\nChallenge solutions proposed by projects, suppliers and engineering teams and assess alternative options.\n\nDocument key architecture decisions through Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).\n\nAssess deviations from architecture and technical standards and support the relevant governance and approval processes.\n\nDefine Build-to-Run requirements and support production readiness, operational handover and knowledge transfer.\n\nArchitecture practices\nThe architect must be comfortable with structured architecture practices, including:\nArchiMate\n\nTOGAF or equivalent architecture methodology\n\nArchitecture principles and standards\n\nArchitecture Decision Records\n\nTarget-state architecture\n\nImpact and dependency analysis\n\nArchitecture governance\n\nThe architect must be capable of producing clear, concise and actionable HLDs, architecture diagrams, technical requirements and decision records.\nTechnical scope\nInfrastructure & Network\nStrong expertise in:\nLAN/WAN, routing, switching, VLANs and subnets\n\nNetwork segmentation, firewalls, DMZs and security zoning\n\nWi-Fi and site/datacenter connectivity\n\nCompute and virtualization\n\nWindows/Linux infrastructure foundations\n\nStorage, backup and recovery\n\nHigh availability and disaster recovery\n\nHybrid infrastructure and resilience\n\nCloud & Hybrid\nGood working knowledge of AWS architecture and networking, including:\nVPC, subnets and route tables\n\nInternet / NAT Gateway\n\nTransit Gateway and VPC Peering\n\nPrivateLink\n\nSecurity Groups and Network ACLs\n\nRoute 53\n\nAWS Direct Connect\n\nThe architect must be able to understand AWS Landing Zone constraints and analyse connectivity, routing, segmentation and security implications between on-premise and cloud environments.\nAPI & Integration\nSufficient understanding of modern integration patterns to assess their infrastructure, network and security implications, including:\nREST APIs and OpenAPI\n\nOAuth2, OIDC and JWT\n\nmTLS\n\nAPI Gateway and reverse proxy\n\nAPI security and rate limiting\n\nWebhooks\n\nEvent-driven architecture\n\nKafka and messaging\n\nAMQP, SFTP and HTTPS\n\nThe architect is not expected to replace an Application or Integration Architect but must understand how systems communicate and challenge connectivity requests in their broader architecture context.\nFor example, the expected approach is not simply:\n“Which network flow must be opened?” but:\n“Why does this interaction exist, which systems and data are involved, between which trust zones, through which integration mechanism, and what is the target architecture?”\nIndustrial / OT\nExperience with industrial or critical in infrastructure/network architecture or senior infrastructure engineering, with demonstrated architecture responsibility in complex environments.\n\nStrong expertise across infrastructure and network architecture.\n\nProven ability to define target architectures, produce HLDs and challenge detailed technical designs.\n\nGood understanding of ArchiMate, TOGAF or equivalent architecture methodologies.\n\nWorking knowledge of AWS/hybrid cloud architecture and cloud networking.\n\nWorking understanding of APIs and modern integration patterns.\n\nAbility to identify cross-domain impacts and dependencies across infrastructure, network, cloud, applications and security.\n\nStrong collaboration skills with architects, engineering teams, projects and suppliers.\n\nPragmatic technical
