Architected intelligence does.\nFor more than 30 years, we have been building the data foundations that make intelligent systems work - designing the Operating System of the intelligent enterprise, where intelligence is embedded into the core of business processes to create sustainable value: we operationalise intelligence.\nAI does not replace humans. It repositions us to a place no system can follow: understanding, deciding, designing, and creating.\nAt Keyrus, you will not just develop skills - you will develop judgment. Your expertise sharpens with every system you architect, every client challenge you solve, and every deployment that compounds on the last.\nOver time, you grow into one of the rarest professionals of the intelligence era: someone who bridges data, AI, and human decision-making at scale, across industries and geographies. This is not a role you fill. It is a discipline you master and a story you help write to become a Keyrus Architect of Intelligence.\nTechnology amplifies. Keyrus culture differentiates. Industrial discipline connects the two.\nRole Details\nJob location: Portugal (visits to Lisbon or Madrid Office when needed)\nContract type: Employee\nTarget start date: January 2027\nWorking hours: Full-time\nCompensation: €42k-€58kper year\nWhat You'll Architect\nAs an AI Engineer, you will help organisations transform complexity into measurable outcomes by combining technology, data, intelligence, and human decision-making.\nThis role is both technical and consultative - perfect for someone who can combine hands-on AI engineering, solution design, and close collaboration with client teams. We’re looking for professionals who think like architects and act like builders.\nYour focus is the intelligence layer of the solution: how models are integrated, how information is retrieved, how agents behave, how quality is evaluated, and how the capability performs once deployed. You will work closely with Software Engineers, Data Engineers, AI Foundation Architects, Forward Deployed Engineers and AI Governance specialists, while retaining clear ownership of the AI behaviour and quality of the solution.\nDesign and build production AI capabilities, including RAG systems, intelligent assistants and agent-enabled workflows aligned with the approved solution architecture.\n\nEngineer agent behaviour across instructions, context, tools, state, routing, memory, recovery, stopping conditions and appropriate human checkpoints.\n\nIntegrate and configure models through APIs or supported platforms, making the right trade-offs between capability, quality, latency, cost and operational requirements.\n\nDesign evaluations and quality gates using representative datasets, automated and regression testing, task-success measures, groundedness and other relevant indicators.\n\nDeploy, monitor and improve AI capabilities in production, using evaluation results and observed system behaviour to drive continuous improvement.\n\nImplement reliability and control mechanisms such as validation, guardrails, failure handling and human oversight, within the architecture and governance standards defined for the engagement.\n\nIntegrate AI capabilities with the surrounding solution and client systems, working with Software Engineers on application interfaces and with Data Engineers on retrieval, data quality and AI-ready data.\n\nEnable client teams to run and extend the agents after go-live.\n\nDocument and reuse what works, including AI behaviour, dependencies, evaluation criteria, limitations and engineering patterns that strengthen future Keyrus engagements.\n\nWho You Are\nYou are a hands-on engineer who understands that a model is only one part of an intelligent system.\n\nYou care about what happens after the model responds: whether the context was right, whether the agent chose the appropriate action, and whether the result holds up when it runs repeatedly in production.\n\nYou make pragmatic technical trade-offs rather than searching for the perfect technology choice.\n\nYou use evidence and evaluations to improve systems, and you communicate limitations clearly.\n\nYou know when a problem belongs to AI Engineering and when another specialist should own it.\n\nYou combine curiosity about new capabilities with the engineering discipline needed to make them operational.\n\nYou are comfortable working in collaborative, international teams and alongside client stakeholders.\n\nWhat You Bring\nQualifications & Experience\nDegree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.\n\nStrong hands-on experience building production GenAI / LLM-based systems, beyond notebook-based or demonstration work.\n\nExperience deploying and operating AI capabilities in production, including monitoring, reliability, latency, cost and continuous improvement.\n\nAbility to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams alongside software, data, architecture and governance specialists.\n\nAvailabilityfor monthly travel to Lisbon or Madrid.\n\nProfessional fluency in Portuguese, Spanish and English, written and spoken.\n\nTechnical & Professional Skills\nStrong Python and software-engineering fundamentals, including APIs, testing, version control, code review and maintainable production code.\n\nPractical experience designing and improving RAG and retrieval-based systems, including context preparation, retrieval quality and grounding.\n\nHands-on experience engineering AI agents or multi-step AI workflows, including tool use, context management, routing, state, failure handling and human control.\n\nExperience creating evaluations for LLM or agent systems, using measurable criteria and representative test cases to assess behaviour and detect regressions.\n\nExperience integrating commercial or open-source model providers, and integrating AI with enterprise applications, APIs, data sources and workflow systems (e.g. CRM, ERP, MCP, webhooks)\n\nAbility to tie agent behaviour to the business KPI it serves.\n\nWorking knowledge of solution-level guardrails, validation, human oversight and responsible AI engineering practices.\n\nFamiliarity with at least one major cloud or AI ecosystem, plus containerisation, CI/CD, observability and LLMOps practices, and the ability to optimise for quality, latency, context usage and inference cost.\n\nDepth in one or more ecosystems such as LangGraph, LangChain, LlamaIndex or Semantic Kernel; OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft or open-source models; and pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate or Milvus. These are examples, not a checklist.\n\nNice to Have\nDeeper agentic AI experience, including multi-agent orchestration, planning and execution loops, complex state management and recovery strategies.\n\nExperience with multimodal systems, fine-tuning, open-source model deployment or specialised inference.\n\nClassical machine-learning or deep-learning experience.\n\nLow-code agent platforms such as n8n, Make or Dust for fast automations alongside code.\n\nExperience in regulated or security-sensitive environments.\n\nConsulting or client-facing experience, and exposure to international projects or multicultural teams.\n\nExperience mentoring engineers or creating reusable AI engineering standards, components or evaluation approaches.\n\n⭐What Makes You Successful\nYou use evaluations and production evidence to guide engineering decisions.\n\nYou balance quality, reliability, latency, cost, safety and maintainability.\n\nYou diagnose unexpected AI behaviour systematically rather than treating model output as a black box.\n\nYou understand your decision authority and involve the right specialist when a decision belongs to architecture, software, data, governance or delivery.\n\nYou communicate technical trade-offs clearly and pragmatically.\n\nYou turn successful engineering patterns into reusable knowledge that improves future delivery.\n\nWhat We Offer at Keyrus Portugal\nCompetitive salary aligned with your experience and the data market\n\nMeal allowance: €10.20/day\n\nFlexible benefits plan\n\nPrivate medical insurance\n\n22 days of annual leave, increasing every 3 years (up to 25 days)\n\nContinuous learning via KLX - Keyrus Learning Experience\n\nA collaborative, international, and human-centred work environment\n\nHow Our Salary Ranges Work\nAt Keyrus, salary ranges reflect different levels of mastery and impact within the same role - not different job titles.\nBottom of the range\nYou meet the core requirements and will need ramp-up time and support.\n\nMiddle of the range\nYou are fully autonomous from Day 1 and deliver consistently.\n\nTop of the range\nYou are a reference for the role, mentor others, and raise the bar for the team.\n\nFinal offers are based on experience, autonomy, scope, and market context, and are discussed transparently during the process.\nResponsible AI & Recruitment\nAt Keyrus, all stages of our recruitment process are conducted and evaluated by human recruiters and interviewers.\nTo support accuracy and efficiency, AI may occasionally be used internally by our team exclusively for note-taking purposes during interviews. AI is never used to make decisions.\nTo ensure fairness, authenticity, and the protection of confidential and proprietary information, the use of AI tools by candidates during the recruitment process is strictly prohibited.\nOur commitment to responsible AI practices ensures that hiring decisions are based solely on each candidate’s own skills, experience, judgment, and expertise.\nAny use of AI assistance during the interview process may result in immediate disqualification from the recruitment process.\n Equal Opportunity Statement\nWe are committed to building an inclusive workplace and encourage applications from all backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic.","description_format":"text","description_chars":9950,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"Portuguese","level":"Advanced (C1)","optional":false},{"language":"Spanish","level":"Advanced (C1)","optional":false},{"language":"English","level":"Advanced (C1)","optional":false}]},"benefits":["Annual leave","Continuous learning","Health insurance"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"Portugal","iso":"PT","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-16T13:57:19Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":1,"expected_fill_days":22,"reasons":["conf:0","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-17T05:46:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":65011,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/keyrus-ai-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/keyrus-ai-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-17T20:42:49Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4840,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-18T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":4416804},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=4416804"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fkeyrus-ai-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fkeyrus-ai-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fkeyrus-ai-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/keyrus-ai-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fkeyrus-ai-engineer"}]}
