Software Engineering Intern – AI/ML & Circuit Simulation

Responsibilities

We are looking for a motivated intern to join our Circuit Simulation team in Dresden. You will work alongside experienced engineers on the development and improvement of circuit simulation software, contributing to architectural improvements, code optimization, new algorithms, and AI/ML solutions. You will:

• Support the architecture and development of circuit simulation software within the PathWave Software Solutions (PSS) organization.
• Contribute to software architecture improvements, code refactoring, and code optimization.
• Develop and evaluate new algorithms and AI/ML solutions for circuit simulation engines.
• Investigate new technologies and evaluate their potential applications to engineering software and circuit simulation.
• Participate in design reviews, usability testing, and customer visits to help validate technical requirements and solutions.
• Collaborate with other R&D and software engineering teams to develop holistic solutions across the product portfolio.
• Apply and promote software engineering best practices, including test-driven development (TDD), upfront design, code reviews, unit testing, and Agile development methodologies.
• Work as part of a multicultural, multi-site engineering team in an Agile development environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and a solid understanding of object-oriented programming.
• Good understanding of software development practices and software architecture.
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and tools.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multicultural, and multi-site team environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python, Rust, or other programming languages.
• Knowledge or academic/project experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
• Experience with AI/ML model training and fine-tuning.
• Knowledge of databases and database development.
• Familiarity with Electronic Design Automation (EDA) concepts, tools, or workflows.
• Knowledge of parsers, compilers, formal grammars, or language processing.
• Familiarity with Verilog-A or Verilog-A compilers.
• Previous experience with software architecture or complex software development projects.
• Interest in circuit simulation and high-frequency electronic design.
