Responsibilities

We are looking for a motivated Circuit Simulation Software Engineering Intern to join our Circuit Simulation R&D team in Dresden and contribute to the development of next-generation circuit simulation technologies. We solve challenging computational problems in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) by combining mathematical and algorithmic innovation with robust, high-performance software implementation.

In this role, you will work on the core simulation engine behind Keysight's industry-leading circuit simulation products. You will collaborate with simulation experts, software architects, device modeling engineers, and product teams to identify complex technical challenges, develop innovative solutions, and contribute to the future direction of circuit simulation technology.

This is an opportunity to apply your knowledge of electrical engineering, numerical algorithms, mathematics, and software engineering to real-world Electronic Design Automation (EDA) problems.

As a Circuit Simulation Software Engineering Intern, you will:

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the core circuit simulation engine.
  • Apply numerical methods, mathematical modeling, and software engineering principles to solve complex simulation problems.
  • Analyze and improve simulation algorithms related to nonlinear equation solving, convergence, differential equations, and numerical linear algebra.
  • Work with sparse matrix algorithms and computational techniques used in circuit simulation.
  • Investigate complex simulation behavior and identify opportunities for algorithmic and performance improvements.
  • Translate mathematical and engineering concepts into reliable, maintainable, production-quality C++ software.
  • Collaborate with simulation experts, software architects, device modeling engineers, and product teams to develop and validate technical solutions.
  • Participate in the development of next-generation circuit simulation technologies for RF, microwave, analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed electronic design.
  • Contribute to a collaborative R&D environment where electrical engineering and software engineering disciplines come together to solve complex EDA problems.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science or a related technical field.
  • Academic or project experience in circuit simulation, numerical methods, or computational mathematics.
  • Knowledge of concepts such as circuit simulation, nonlinear equation solving, Newton-Raphson methods, convergence techniques, differential equation analysis
  • Understanding of sparse matrix algorithms and numerical linear algebra.
  • Strong programming skills in C++, preferably with experience developing or contributing to large, maintainable software systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical or simulation behavior and translate mathematical concepts into reliable software implementations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across electrical engineering and software engineering disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous experience with Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software or circuit simulation tools.
    • Experience with numerical algorithms, computational mathematics, or scientific computing.
    • Experience developing high-performance or computationally intensive software.
    • Knowledge of RF, microwave, analog, mixed-signal, or high-speed circuit design.
    • Experience with semiconductor device modeling or device simulation.
    • Familiarity with software architecture, optimization, or large-scale software development.
    • Experience with additional programming languages such as Python.
