Keysight is an American maker of electronic test and measurement equipment and software, spun off from Agilent Technologies in 2014. It sells oscilloscopes, network and signal analysers, and design and simulation software used in wireless, semiconductor, automotive and aerospace development, and acquired the French simulation firm ESI Group in 2024. The company is headquartered in Santa Rosa, California, United States.
Overview

Keysight is at the forefront of technology innovation, delivering breakthroughs and trusted insights in electronic design, simulation, prototyping, test, manufacturing, and optimization. Our ~15,000 employees create world-class solutions in communications, 5G, automotive, energy, quantum, aerospace, defense, and semiconductor markets for customers in over 100 countries. Learn moreabout what we do.

Ouraward-winning culture embraces a bold vision of where technology can take us and a passion for tackling challenging problems with industry-first solutions. We believe that when people feel a sense of belonging, they can be more creative, innovative, and thrive at all points in their careers.

Keysight is seeking an exceptional RAN-focused wireless software engineer with deep 3GPP expertise to architect and advance cutting-edge test, emulation, and validation solutions that power innovation across the entire wireless ecosystem-from devices and chipsets to network infrastructure and Open RAN. You’ll work close to standards and real implementations, translating specifications into robust software capabilities that enable customers to validate conformance, interoperability, and performance across the RAN lifecycle.

This is an ideal opportunity for a thought leader from a leading RAN organization who thrives at the intersection of 3GPP specs, real network behavior, and high-quality software -where you'll have direct influence on industry standards and real-world wireless innovation.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do

  • Architect and deliver sophisticated software capabilities aligned to 3GPP LTE/NR (e.g., RRC, PDCP/RLC/MAC, PHY interactions, procedures, state machines, timers, KPI/measurement semantics) that set new standards for performance and reliability.
  • Transform evolving requirements (3GPP releases, operator acceptance needs, O-RAN priorities) into elegant software designs, robust test workflows, and reusable components that define best practices across the industry.
  • Engineer and lead sophisticated automation and tooling for protocol conformance, interoperability, and performance validation across complex RAN-facing scenarios that solve real-world deployment challenges.
  • Partner with world-class cross-functional experts (systems, RF, protocol, product, customers/partners) to rapidly reproduce field issues, uncover root causes in complex behaviors, and deliver elegant solutions with deep technical rigor.
  • Produce high-impact technical artifacts-design docs, test plans, trace/pcap interpretations, and technical notes-that withstand rigorous review from industry-leading telecom engineers and become reference materials for the field.
  • Shape the evolution of next-generation RAN architectures including Open RAN / O-RAN interfaces and multi-vendor ecosystems, positioning yourself at the forefront of wireless industry transformation.

What you’ll work with

  • Open RAN / RAN & Core validation: automated suites enabling conformance, interoperability, performance, security, and energy-efficiency validation across the test lifecycle.
  • 5G network emulation: solutions covering NR, sub-6 and mmWave use cases and test domains; software paired with network emulation platforms to emulate 5G NR network behavior and configure standards-compliant testing.
  • RAN measurement & optimization tooling (as applicable): field test/verification support for advanced 5G NR technologies like DSS, beamforming, massive MIMO, and O-RAN.

Qualifications

  • Strong, hands-on expertise in 3GPP LTE/NR with a clear RAN focus (e.g., L1/L2/L3 procedures, scheduling concepts, mobility, bearers, signaling flows, performance metrics).
  • Proven track record of professional software engineering excellence (typically 8+ years, but we value transformative impact and strategic scope over tenure alone).
  • Strong coding skills in C/C++ (and/or modern Python for automation/tooling); comfortable in Linux development environments.
  • Proven ability to debug distributed/real-time systems: logs, traces, protocol analyzers, KPIs, timing, performance bottlenecks.
  • Exceptional technical communication in English (written and verbal), with a talent for translating complex, spec-driven topics into elegant, implementable requirements that inspire cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with RAN product development (gNB/eNB), RAN performance optimization, or feature verification in complex system environments.
  • Familiarity with O-RAN architecture/interfaces (O-RU/O-DU/O-CU, fronthaul, RIC concepts) and multi-vendor integration challenges.
  • Experience with CI/CD, test frameworks, containers, and/or cloud-based deployment environments.
  • Prior exposure to standards work (3GPP RAN1/2/4/5) or strong experience implementing features directly from evolving specs.

What success looks like

  • You quickly establish credibility by translating ambiguous, spec-heavy problems into concrete implementations and testable outcomes.
  • You raise quality and repeatability: better automation, clearer diagnostics, and fewer bugs.
  • You help steer solution direction by identifying what matters most to RAN engineers, labs, and operators-and making it real in software.
  • You will thrive working with a highly technical, cross-disciplinary team building solutions used across the wireless ecosystem.
