Ki

Ki is a London insurance company launched in 2020 as the first fully algorithmic syndicate at Lloyd's. Brokers place follow capacity through a digital platform that quotes automatically rather than through underwriter meetings. The company was created by Brit with backing from Google and university research partners.

Who are we?

Look at the latest headlines and you will see something Ki insures. Think space shuttles, world tours, wind farms, and even footballers’ legs.

Ki’s mission is simple. Digitally disrupt and revolutionise a 335-year-old market. Working with Google and UCL, Ki has created a platform that uses algorithms, machine learning and large language models to give insurance brokers quotes in seconds, rather than days.

Ki is proudly the biggest global algorithmic insurance carrier. It is the fastest growing syndicate in the Lloyd's of London market, and the first ever to make $100m in profit in 3 years.

Ki’s teams have varied backgrounds and work together in an agile, cross-functional way to build the very best experience for its customers. Ki has big ambitions but needs more excellent minds to challenge the status-quo and help it reach new horizons.

Where you come in?

As an Assistant Underwriter at Ki, you’ll support our Property Portfolio Underwriting team in delivering our underwriting strategy, portfolio objectives, and broker engagement activity. This role combines underwriting support, portfolio analysis, and stakeholder management to help us drive profitable growth and maintain strong market relationships.

We work closely with our Underwriters and analytical teams-including Exposure Management, Actuarial, Portfolio Management, and Operations-to contribute directly to pricing, portfolio optimisation, reporting, and process improvement. You’ll play a key role in supporting both new and renewal business, helping us enhance our portfolio insights, boost operational efficiency, and deliver an outstanding broker experience.

What you will be doing:

  • Support the Property underwriting team, as well as working collaboratively with the various analytical functions at Ki
  • Prepare pricing information for Underwriters ahead of facility/binder renewals, referring to underwriting and actuarial as appropriate, and leveraging traditional actuarial and machine learning approaches to support Ki’s model.
  • Maintain key broker relationships in conjunction with Underwriting. Liaising with brokers/clients on queries and feeding information back internally.
  • Establish and maintain knowledge of internal controls and all procedures relating to underwriting. Ensuring that business is being carried out within underwriting control framework and approved business plan, subject to individual authorisation levels, referring to the Portfolio Underwriter as appropriate.
  • Take an active role in managing the triage and engagement on Ki’s renewal portfolio, by leading (or co-leading) weekly pod meetings with a demonstrated understanding of Ki’s strategy and appetite, to help identify business priority workstreams.
  • Ensure that broker feedback and requests are effectively recorded and referred to the Underwriters to drive continuous improvements to Ki’s products and services.
  • Support in regular Portfolio Trading updates and portfolio retros to ensure key senior stakeholders are updated and satisfied with direction and performance.
  • Work on company-wide projects, developing an understanding of the development, algorithm, and engineering teams.
