This is not a remote position. This individual will serve as a technical leader responsible for the planning, design, and coordination of fire protection and life safety systems for a diverse portfolio of healthcare, federal, aviation, commercial, industrial, higher education, and municipal projects.\nThe ideal candidate is a Qualified Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE) with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality design solutions in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.\nResponsibilities\nLead the planning, analysis, and design of fire protection and life safety systems for new construction, renovation, and expansion projects.\nPerform building and life safety code analyses, occupancy classifications, egress evaluations, fire-resistance-rated construction review, and development of life safety strategies.\nDevelop fire protection design criteria and construction documents for:Automatic sprinkler systems\nStandpipe systems\nFire pumps and water supply systems\nFire alarm and mass notification systems\nSpecial hazard suppression systems\n\nPerform water supply analyses, fire flow evaluations, and fire protection infrastructure assessments.\nCoordinate fire protection requirements with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil disciplines.\nParticipate in quality control reviews, design development, permitting, and construction administration activities.\nInterface directly with clients, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), contractors, and project stakeholders.\nProvide technical mentorship to designers and junior engineers.\nSupport business development efforts and contribute to proposal development and project pursuits.\nQualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Fire Protection Engineering.\nLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) with Fire Protection Engineering licensure.\nMinimum 8+ years of experience in fire protection engineering and life safety consulting.\nDemonstrated experience designing fire alarm, sprinkler, suppression, and life safety systems.\nStrong knowledge of:NFPA Codes and Standards\nInternational Building Code (IBC)\nInternational Fire Code (IFC)\nLife Safety Code (NFPA 101)\nUnified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and federal design requirements\n\nExperience preparing construction documents, specifications, calculations, and code analyses.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nHealthcare facility design experience.\nACHA/AHCA healthcare project experience strongly preferred.\nFederal and Department of Defense project experience.\nExperience with mission critical, aviation, industrial, laboratory, or higher education facilities.\nRevit and BIM coordination experience.\nFamiliarity with phased occupancy projects and complex renovation efforts.\nWhy Kimley-Horn?\nAt Kimley-Horn, we do things differently.
