This role supports utility-scale generation, BESS, substations, and data center projects, with an emphasis on evaluating system performance under transient and dynamic conditions.\nResponsibilities\nPerform EMT simulations in PSCAD for renewable generation, BESS, and hybrid systems\nConduct dynamic (RMS) studies using PSS®E or equivalent tools\nAnalyze and simulate: Temporary Overvoltages (TOV)\nTransient Recovery Voltage (TRV)\nSwitching transients and fault response\nLoad rejection and load ramp events\n\nInterpret and apply applicable standards\nPrepare technical reports and study documentation with clear methodologies and conclusions\nCoordinate with multidisciplinary teams\nQualifications\n5+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role in Power System Studies\nProfessional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's Degree Preferred)\nUnderstanding of:Transient and dynamic system behavior\nProtection coordination and system response during faults \n\nFamiliarity with interconnection and grid compliance studies \nProficiency in:PSCAD\nPSS®E\n\nAbility to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff\n PreferredExperience with hybrid systems (BESS + generation + large loads)\nExposure to data center or industrial load modeling\nExperience with additional tools such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower\nKnowledge of:IEEE 2800\nIEEE 1547\nUtility-specific interconnection requirements (e.g., ERCOT, WECC, BPA)\n\nSalary Range:\n$100,000 - $165,000 \nEligible for Performance Based Bonus Compensation\nWhy Kimley-Horn?\nAt Kimley-Horn, we do things differently.
