KIPP has a 25-year track record of preparing students for success in college and life. Founded in 2018, KIPP Miami operates two nonprofit charter schools in Greater Miami’s Urban Core community. Currently, KIPP Miami educates students in grades K-5 at KIPP Royalty Academy and KIPP Legacy Elementary and 6-8 students at KIPP Courage Academy and KIPP Legacy Middle School. To learn more, visit www.kippmiami.org or visit us on instagram\nApplicants, please note this is an immediate hire in 6th grade Mathematics.\n KIPP Miami seeks an experienced Middle School Math/ Algebra 1 Teacher to design and deliver a rigorous, college-preparatory mathematics program. This role teaches 6th grade Math and sets students up for Algebra 1. Algebra 1 is our priority. Many of our Algebra 1 students arrive with significant gaps in foundational math skills. We affirm the limitless potential of every student, and we read those gaps as where instruction has to start, not as a ceiling on what a student can achieve. We need a teacher who can find where the skills broke down, rebuild them, and still hold the grade-level bar. The ideal candidate has a proven record teaching middle school mathematics, including Algebra 1, and can build pathways that prepare students for it.\nWhat We’re Looking For\nOur values: Kid Focus, Radical Love, Excellence, TEAM, and Fun, ground this role.\nInstructional Excellence: You plan backwards, differentiate effectively, and deliver engaging, culturally responsive lessons that move all learners to mastery. You prepare and internalize a strong exemplar at the rigor bar of the standard, anticipate high-leverage misconceptions, and design lessons where students do the heavy lifting. \nAdvanced Program Mindset: You challenge inequities in who gets access to advanced mathematics, and you expand that access while holding rigor.\nData-Driven & Reflective: You hold yourself and your students accountable to the urgent pursuit of results. You self-reflect and seek opportunities to get better faster, and you develop solutions that yield strong outcomes: a student two years behind gets a plan this week, not next quarter\nHeartbeat Aligned: You live our values in the classroom and on the team.Kid Focus: You put students first every day, in every decision, and prioritize their long-term interests over short-term wins: durable understanding over a quick test bump.\nRadical Love: You affirm the worth and limitless potential of every student and teammate, you bring bold belief to students who have been told they are “not a math person,” and you find a way or make one. You celebrate identity, culture, and community as sources of strength, and you act courageously, especially when it’s uncomfortable.\nTEAM: You seek to understand, invite diverse perspectives, and say the thing that needs to be said on behalf of our kids, directly and with care. You give full and frank input, then rally behind the decision even when it isn’t the one you would have made, and you offer support to teammates before being asked.\nFUN: You take the work seriously, not yourself. You bring energy, humor, and passion, and you celebrate wins big and small, including the student who finally sees why the method works.\n\n Key Roles and Responsibilities\nInstruction & Curriculum\nPlan and teach rigorous, standards-aligned Middle School Math / Algebra 1 curricula (including Honors and advanced pathways) that meet Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards and Miami-Dade advanced program expectations.\n• Prepare and internalize a strong exemplar response for each task, completed with the tools, strategies, and resources students actually have access to, and reflecting the rigor bar of the standard.\nAnticipate high-leverage student misconceptions and pre-plan prompts to address them when they arise.\nBuild math units that develop fluency with expressions and equations, linear and quadratic functions, systems, and mathematical modeling, with intentional scaffolding for students entering below grade level.\nDiagnose and close foundational skill gaps through do-nows, small-group instruction, and targeted intervention, without lowering the grade-level bar.\nDesign lessons where students do the heavy lifting: inquiry-driven pedagogy, project-based learning, and real-world applications (architecture, robotics, engineering design).\nKeep students engaged in the work of the lesson from start to finish.\nAssessment & Data\nDevelop assessments and performance tasks aligned to state benchmarks and advanced programs; respond meaningfully to what student work shows, student by student.\nUse diagnostic and interim data to identify prerequisite gaps early and adjust instruction in response.\nPrepare students for the FSA\nAdvanced Programs & Pathways\nCollaborate with the mathematics department to ensure vertical alignment from middle school mathematics through Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, and higher-level courses.\nOpen advanced mathematical thinking to all students, ensuring equitable pathways to AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AICE, and IB courses, not only to students who arrived on grade level.\nCulture & Family Partnership\nBuild a classroom students run to: order that frees students to think, mistakes treated as part of learning, and high expectations paired with fierce care\nPartner with families as their child’s first and strongest supporter, transparent progress reporting, student-led conferences, and proactive communication, especially when a student is behind.\nCreate opportunities for every student to shine, and make sure student voices are heard and respected.\nProfessionalism\nContribute to shared goals, assessments, and curriculum so that every KIPP Miami student gets an excellent math education, not only the students on your roster.\nCollaborate in professional learning communities, content teams, and advanced program alignment work.\nParticipate fully in weekly one-on-ones, coaching cycles, and peer feedback, and hold yourself accountable to the results you commit to.\n Required Education & Experience\nA bachelor's degree is requiredA degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.\n\nAt least two (2) years of full-time high school teaching experience in mathematics (required).\nDemonstrated ability to deliver rigorous instruction and achieve measurable student growth in Middle School Math and/or Algebra 1 including with students who enter below grade level.\nValid Florida Educator Certificate (or eligibility) in Mathematics (6-12). (Candidates pursuing reciprocity or temporary certification must be eligible under Florida statutes.)\nStrong data literacy; proficiency with instructional technology \nStrong proficiency with instructional technology and data-driven decision-making.\nSatisfactory background check and fingerprint clearance.\nPhysical Requirements\nThe usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:\nOften required to stand and sit. \nWalk frequently and climb stairs.\nReasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.\nSkills and Abilities\nCommitment to KIPP Miami’s mission and to our values: Kid Focus, Radical Love, Excellence, TEAM, and Fun\nBelief in the potential of every student, and the persistence not to give up on any of them.\nExcellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with a wide range of staff members, families, and external partners.\nStrong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.\nAbility to plan, organize, and implement curricula and activities effectively.\nAbility to give and receive candid feedback and to engage in productive disagreement without taking it personally.\nAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work comfortably with ambiguity.\nAbility to anticipate challenges, identify inefficiencies, and generate creative solutions.\nAbility to manage high-stress situations with a calm and positive demeanor, and to maintain professionalism and emotional constancy.\nAbility to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being.\nAbility to manage confidential student information appropriately.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and in entering, analyzing, and reporting student data.\nAbility to work flexible hours, including time outside the school day when students need it.\nNice-to-Haves:\nProficiency in Spanish and/or Creole, preferred\nExperience in high-performing school environments with a record of student growth and equitable outcomes.\n Compensation & Benefits\nThe salary range for this role is $55,550-$62,250, commensurate with experience.\nKIPP Miami offers a full comprehensive benefits plan, including health care, competitive 403(B) plan, and a school laptop.\nOur organization is an equal opportunity employer.
