This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on execution.\nYou will work directly with Product Owners, Engineers, and Solution Architects to translate complex technical concepts into clear, usable documentation that improves the customer experience.\nThis role is ideal for a writer who thrives in highly technical environments, understands the insurance industry, solutioning and developer workflows, and takes pride in producing precise, structured documentation.\nKey Responsibilities\nApply working knowledge of insurance distribution workflows (producer contracting, commissions, hierarchy structures, carrier credentialing) to produce documentation that is accurate, contextually relevant, and useful to insurance-industry end users and developers.\nCollaborate with the Insurance Product Owner and Solutions team to document vertical-specific features, data models, and integration patterns unique to the insurance space.\nWrite, edit, and maintain developer-facing documentation including:\nAPI documentation\nIntegration guides\nPlugin documentation\nDeveloper tutorials & walkthroughs\nTechnical workflows & concepts\nRelease notes\nRead, interpret, and validate OpenAPI specifications (.yaml / .json).\nPartner with engineering teams to document new software features, API endpoints, data models, and error handling.\nOwn documentation quality, clarity, accuracy, and usability.\nContribute to documentation architecture, organization, and navigation to support a strong developer experience.\nOperate within a Docs-as-Code environment using Git-based workflows.\nInterview subject matter experts and independently gather technical details.\nManage documentation projects from intake through publication.\nContinuously improve documentation based on product changes and developer needs.\nRequirements\nPreferredInsurance Background. You should have an understanding of the insurance industry, including familiarity with concepts such as contracting, commissions management, FMOs/IMOs, carrier relationships, or insurance distribution workflows.\nTechnical Acumen. You need to have strong technical abilities to be able to understand the complexity of our application and solution framework. You should be able to independently create solutions yourself using common integration iPaaS products and API testing tools.\nCollaboration. You should have excellent collaboration skills, as the whole team works together to deliver functionality. You should strive to encourage and empower your team members as we aim to maintain a healthy work environment where we can achieve success, together. You should be eager to mentor newer members of the team as we grow.\nCommunication. You must offer support and transparency to your team, so you need to be able to provide clear status and expectations. You must effectively communicate progress and dependencies to a variety of stakeholders, and consistently update when things go off track.\nRequired Qualifications\nAt least 5 years of technical writing experience focused on software or technical platforms.\nBachelor's degree in Communication, English, Journalism, or Computer Science\nProven experience documenting InsurTech or insurance-adjacent SaaS products in a regulated industry\nExperience writing API and developer documentation for SaaS, platform, or enterprise software products.\nStrong understanding of the OpenAPI Specification.\nAbility to read and validate .yaml and .json specification files.\nProficiency with Docs-as-Code workflows.\nHands-on experience with GitHub/GitLab or Gitbooks.\nAdvanced working knowledge of Markdown.\nDemonstrated understanding of developer experience (DX) principles.\nStrong information architecture skills with the ability to structure complex documentation.\nExperience working within Agile product teams.\nExcellent SME interviewing and cross-functional collaboration skills.\nStrong project management abilities with a track record of delivering documentation on schedule.\nPortfolio required - applications without work samples will not be considered.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience documenting HealthTech or FinTech SaaS products in a regulated industry\nFamiliarity with AI-driven or ML-powered SaaS products, including comfort documenting agentic workflows, model outputs, or AI-assisted process automation.\nFamiliarity with documentation platforms beyond GitBook.\nUX/UI Writing experience.\nBackground working in high-growth SaaS\nWork Location Requirement\nThis role is based in Austin, Texas and follows a hybrid schedule of four days in office and one remote. Candidates must reside in the Austin area.
