This role combines advanced GIS equipment expertise with comprehensive AIS yard design, system-level engineering studies, and multidisciplinary coordination.\nThe ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge of HV equipment, strong analytical skills, and proven experience delivering safe, reliable, and constructible substation designs.\nThis is a great opportunity for a GIS & AIS Substation Engineer with a positive attitude, collaborative, possess strong Electrical Engineering knowledge and experience, enthusiastic about new challenges (technical and non-technical), and can communicate well with others. Our team is dynamic and collaborative - if this description fits what you are looking for in your career, please apply!\nEXPERIENCE & ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS\nBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; P. Eng or eligibility for registration preferred.\n5-10+ years of experience in high-voltage substation engineering, covering both GIS and AIS systems.\nDemonstrated capability in power system studies using ETAP, CYME, SKM, PSCAD, or similar tools.\nStrong understanding of HV equipment: breakers, disconnects, instrument transformers, bus systems, cable systems, surge protection.\nFamiliarity with CSA, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, and utility-specific standards.\nExcellent communication, documentation, and multidisciplinary coordination skills.\nAbility to support field work and occasional travel.\nRESPONSIBILITIES\nDirect experience with GIS manufacturers (Hitachi, Siemens, ABB, Mitsubishi).\nAIS yard design for transmission-level voltages (72 kV, 138 kV, 240 kV, 500 kV).\nBrownfield substation upgrades and complex interface management.\nKnowledge of protection & control systems, relay logic, and SCADA integration.\nExperience with utility interconnection requirements and system impact studies.\nExecute electrical engineering activities with the objective of meeting the defined contractual scope to the relevant codes, standards, and company procedures.\nPerform calculations including load studies, lighting levels, hazardous area classifications, junction box, distribution panel, and cable sizing.\nStamp and issue drawings.\nAnalyze technical issues within the electrical engineering discipline, aided and supported by the other specialist disciplines.\nDevelop work plans and execution of strategies given schedule, budget, and scope constraints.\nDevelop project design criteria, design basis, and electrical specifications.\nDevelop specific electrical systems, equipment, skid and module packages design criteria, sizing, and specifications.\nPerform detailed reviews of project electrical design specifications, design drawings, and standard detail drawings.\nProvide drafters with modifications to technical drawings and work plans according to engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for design team.\nReview and ensure required corrections are completed by designers and meets project standards.\nReport to the Electrical Engineering Manager on progress of work and ensure coordination between the engineering and design team.\nMentor and supervise junior team members.\nAssist in the development of work practices and procedures.\nIdentify any slippages to schedule or budget and make changes accordingly to solve complex issues.\nAssist in the creation of other project documents such as Requests for Information, Purchase Recommendations, and P&IDs.\nPartner with stakeholders in proposal writing, marketing presentations, and organization of internal resources for assigned prospects.\nSupport the business development of Kleinfelder and liaise any possible opportunities.\nAssist in creating work document packages during closeout of projects.\nTravel to field for project scoping, verification, construction support, and meeting with clients.\nAttend and host team/project meetings and client meetings.\nCompletion of other relevant duties as required.\nCOMPETENCIES & SKILLS\nTeam leader and strong ability to work in a collaborative environment.\nOrganization and time management.\nClient service oriented.\nOrganizational awareness.\nAnalytical thinker and high attention to detail.\nStrong problem-solving abilities.\nExcellent oral and written communication.\nWillingness to provide career and technical mentorship.\nCommitment to risk and change management processes.\nPOSITION CONDITIONS\nJob is performed in an office environment; occasional travel may be required.\nCalgary is 100% remote.\nEdmonton is hybrid.\nProgress with an Employer that Values You\nKleinfelder is an inclusive organization free from discrimination.
