In this role, you will apply engineering principles to the planning, design, analysis, and evaluation of civil engineering projects involving land development, grading and drainage, stormwater management, retaining walls, transportation-related infrastructure, and construction-related investigations.\nThe ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) with strong technical skills, outstanding written communication abilities, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technical specialists.\nEssential Responsibilities\nEngineering & Design\nDesign and analyze civil engineering systems including: Site grading and drainage\nStormwater management systems\nWater quality and detention facilities\nRetaining walls\nRoadways and pavement systems\nUtility infrastructure\n\nPerform engineering calculations and prepare construction documents.\nDevelop innovative solutions to complex site development and infrastructure challenges.\nEnsure designs comply with applicable building codes, local regulations, and industry standards.\nSite Investigation & Evaluation\nConduct field inspections of construction sites, existing structures, and civil infrastructure.\nEvaluate site conditions including drainage patterns, soil conditions, erosion concerns, and construction quality.\nCollect and analyze field data to support project recommendations and engineering conclusions.\nCoordinate with contractors, municipalities, and project stakeholders.\nProject Management\nManage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules and budgets.\nAssist with proposal development, scope creation, and fee estimates.\nMonitor project progress and communicate updates to clients and internal team members.\nCollaborate with drafting staff and technical specialists to produce high-quality deliverables.\nTechnical Reporting\nPrepare clear, concise, and defensible engineering reports.\nDocument findings, analyses, conclusions, and recommendations.\nPresent technical information to clients, attorneys, insurance representatives, municipalities, and project teams as needed.\nQualifications\nRequired\nBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.\n4+ years of civil engineering experience.\nEngineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.\nExperience with land development, grading and drainage, stormwater management, or transportation projects.\nProficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.\nStrong technical writing and communication skills.\nAbility to perform field inspections and travel to project sites as needed.\nPreferred\nProfessional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.\nExperience with hydrology and hydraulic modeling software.\nExperience with retaining wall design and geotechnical considerations.\nKnowledge of Colorado design standards and permitting processes.\nProject management experience.\nKnowledge, Skills & Abilities\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to interpret engineering plans, specifications, and construction documents.\nExcellent organizational and time management skills.\nAbility to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.\nEffective collaboration and client relationship skills.\nCommitment to continuous learning and professional development.\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to conduct field inspections in varying weather conditions.\nAbility to walk uneven terrain and construction sites.\nAbility to climb ladders and navigate active project environments when necessary.\nAbility to lift and carry field equipment up to 25 pounds.\nCompensation & Benefits\n Salary: $96,000-$122,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications)\nSchedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-4:30 PM\nWork Setting: Hybrid - approximately 60% remote/home office and 40% field inspections\n Benefits: Matching 401(k)\nCompany Profit Sharing Plan\nMedical, Dental, and Vision Insurance\nPaid Time Off and Holidays\nProfessional Development Assistance\nTuition Reimbursement (up to $5,250/year)\nMileage reimbursement\n\nWhy Join Knott Laboratory?\nYou’ll join a values-driven, people-first firm where innovation, expertise, and growth are celebrated.
