It includes proper documentation of activities (per associated SOPs and work instructions) and related interactions with respect to project progress, stability, and scale-up of products. Also responsible for maintaining good communication related to projects with other departments, customers and vendors; as well as understanding and implementing all GMP and other laboratory related regulatory requirements.\nJob Scope and Requirements:\nExecutes new product development with all stages of product development, from ideation through launch per priorities assigned by R&D Director, R&D Manager or designate.\nEnsures implementation of necessary technical resources to meet targets, deadlines and formula cost per specifications indicated in product development brief\nInvestigates/resolves research issues which may arise during the development process and/or in anticipation to issues which may come up in a pilot plant or manufacturing\nColor matches product to internal and customer standards\nReformulation of existing products for continuous improvement of cost, regulatory compliance, quality, and /or performance profile\nMaintains a legible and accurate record of all pertinent data and information in the laboratory notebook including detailed experimental procedures\nTracks progress of the project(s) vs. critical path and communicates status and any potential challenges while offering alternative solutions\nEnsures formulation compliance with EPA, TSCA, CARB, and other relevant regulatory agencies\nInitiates stability and formula/packing compatibility of all new and re-formulated products and documents results\nWrites detailed reports summarizing results as required by manager/vendor/or customer\nCreates, reviews, and approves technical documents to support developmental projects (Examples include, but not limited to, ingredient statements, formula cards, patents, etc.)\nWorks with manufacturing/compounding to ensure smooth formula transition from lab to plant scale, and helps develop finished product specification\nWorks closely with batching to fix issues in the compounding process, such as color correction, problem solving, and other issues that may arise\nAssists supply chain group as appropriate with identification, evaluation and qualification of alternate raw materials/vendors\nProvide scientific expertise and ability to translate new ingredients/technology, packaging and processes into products or product concepts\nAttends industry trade shows and seminars to keep informed on industry trends\nExtensive interdepartmental interaction, and provides technical assistance related to product formula and process as required\nEvaluates patents and drafts patent applications for unique formulation or ingredient applications\nParticipates in the general upkeep of the R&D laboratory, including maintaining adequate supplies, routine disposal of samples and general cleaning.\nHandles other responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the supervisor\nEducation and Experience:\nBS/BA in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related biological science\n2-4 years of hands on formulation experience in air care/home care (preferably with highly fragranced products)\nUnderstanding & experience with all stages of product development, from ideation through launch (stability, safety, claims, etc.), regulatory, scale up, and transition to manufacturing/commercialization\nAbility to handle multiple projects simultaneously, while efficiently managing timelines\nAbility to proactively monitor, investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to formula stability, safety, and manufacturing\nExperience within fast paced, entrepreneurial environment such as private label and/or contract manufacturing organization\nStrong individual contributor capable of operating without direct supervision\nExcellent written/verbal communication and problem-solving skills\nAbility to exercise sound, independent judgment\nStrong computer skills (Microsoft Office)\nGood understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices & Regulations (GMP’s) and OSHA safety requirements\nSelf-motivated with strong work ethic\nMust be able to match color visually (color test required)\nMust be able to work around fragrance on a daily
