Based in our research and development organization at Guardian Glass you will not only have the opportunity to shape the skylines of our cities and the windows of our homes, but also to have a significant impact on reducing global energy consumption by increasing adoption of energy efficient window technologies.Headquartered in the US, Guardian is one of the world’s largest suppliers of flat glass and energy efficient vacuum coated window solutions with operations around the world.Learn more here:https://www.guardianglass.com/us/en\n\nOur Team\nOur Glass Technology and Development group is a diverse contribution motivated team, working within a culture that encourages entrepreneurship and constructive challenge with respect and humility to deliver superior results for our internal and external customers.Learn more about our culture here:https://principlebasedmanagement.com/en\nIn your role you will be partnered with one of our experienced scientists who will help acquaint you with glass, vacuum coatings, and our test methods.You will have the opportunity to interact daily with our product development, process development, and product testing and validation teams.Additionally there may be the opportunity to see your efforts translated into production at one of our global sites including our original float glass manufacturing site directly across the street from our R&D center.\n\nWhat You Will Do\nYour specific responsibilities will be defined based on your background and the current needs of the business.Examples might include some of the following:\nDepositing and characterizing thin film layer materials to understand how their deposition conditions and properties affect their response to heat treatment or how they impact durability.\nTesting new process technologies such as ion beam assist or high power impulse magnetron sputtering to determine the impact on coating behavior.\nDeveloping new test methods to improve our knowledge of coating materials so that we might more effectively transfer processes from development into production and from one production site to another.\nDevelop methods to deploy AI in our research to more efficiently build knowledge and wisdom from data and information.\nIdentify the factors that control coating response to heat treatment by comparing production and development conditions and executing systematic experiments.\nLearn and apply a wide range of thin film and materials characterization techniques including stress measurement as a function of temperature, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), ellipsometry, spectral reflection and transmission, x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). \nCreate new software that allows more efficient product change-overs and enables effective deployment of optical models into production.\nCharacterize the process and behavior of polymer protective coatings to improve manufacturing efficiency.\nIdentify and develop durability enhancing processes to improve product manufacturability.\nModel interactions between birds and glass to improve our understanding of avian vision and improve effectiveness of bird deterrent products.\n\nWho You Are (Basic Qualifications)\nPursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, engineering, or a related technical field \nEligible for full-time employment by Summer 2029\nProficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. \nExperience communicating technical information, results, or ideas through written, verbal, or presentation formats. \nExperience independently planning and executing projects, including prioritizing activities and utilizing available resources to achieve project objectives. \nDemonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills. \nWhat Will Put You Ahead\nExperience using AI-enabled and other digital tools to support work, academic, or project activities. \nAt Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs.
