Industrial Controls\nLocation: Sterling, VA\nSalary Range: $90,000-$125,000\nJob Type: Full-Time\nProject Focus: Data Center Construction | Mission Critical Systems\nTravel: Approximately 10%-40%\nDepartment: Controls / Mission Critical Systems\nPosition Overview\nThis position is for an experienced PLC Programmer to develop, configure, integrate, troubleshoot, and commission automation and control systems supporting mission-critical data center infrastructure.\nThis highly technical role requires strong hands-on experience with industry-standard PLC platforms, industrial controllers, Logix-based programming software, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial networking.\nThe PLC Programmer will work closely with commissioning teams, electrical and mechanical contractors, engineers, project management, and data center representatives to ensure automation systems operate safely, reliably, and according to design.\nKey Responsibilities\nPLC Programming & Development\nDevelop PLC programs using industry-standard Logix programming software\nProgram and configure industrial PLC controllers\nDevelop and troubleshoot ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks\nConfigure PLC I/O modules, remote I/O racks, and distributed control systems\nTroubleshoot and modify PLC programs during installation, startup, and commissioning\nMaintain organized program documentation and software revision control\nMission-Critical Systems Integration\nProgram, integrate, and support controls for critical data center infrastructure, including:\nBackup diesel generators\nAutomatic Transfer Switches (ATS)\nUninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems\nElectrical switchgear and power monitoring\nChiller plants and cooling towers\nCRAH and CRAC systems\nFuel monitoring systems\nEnvironmental monitoring systems\nOther mission-critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure\nIndustrial Networks & Communications\nConfigure and troubleshoot EtherNet/IP networks\nIntegrate PLC systems with HMI and SCADA platforms\nDevelop and support industrial HMI applications\nCoordinate PLC communication with Building Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and power monitoring systems\nTroubleshoot network, device, communication, and I/O issues\nSupport redundant and fault-tolerant control architectures\nCommissioning & Startup\nSupport Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)\nParticipate in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)\nSupport Integrated Systems Testing (IST) in mission-critical environments\nTroubleshoot controls during equipment startup and commissioning\nValidate sequences of operation with commissioning agents and project teams\nDiagnose PLC logic, hardware, communication, and field-device issues\nModify programming based on testing results and field conditions\nProvide onsite technical support during installation, startup, and system integration\nDocumentation & Project Coordination\nDevelop and maintain control narratives, PLC program documentation, I/O lists, and network architecture diagrams\nPrepare and maintain as-built documentation\nMaintain PLC software revision control\nCoordinate with electrical and mechanical contractors\nWork closely with commissioning teams, engineers, and owner representatives\nCommunicate technical issues, corrective actions, and system status to project stakeholders\nRequired Qualifications\n3-7+ years of PLC programming experience\nStrong hands-on experience with industry-standard industrial PLC platforms\nProficiency with major PLC controller families\nStrong experience with Logix-based programming software\nExperience programming ladder logic and structured text\nHMI/SCADA development experience\nStrong knowledge of EtherNet/IP and industrial networking\nExperience with electrical control systems\nExperience supporting system startup and commissioning\nStrong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills\nAbility to read and interpret electrical and controls drawings\nAbility to collaborate effectively with construction, engineering, controls, and commissioning teams\nPreferred Qualifications\nData center construction or commissioning experience\nMission-critical controls experience\nIndustrial HMI software experience\nPower generation control systems\nUPS and electrical switchgear monitoring\nBMS and power monitoring integration\nExperience with N+1 or 2N redundant control architectures\nTier III or Tier IV data center commissioning\nLarge-scale industrial automation or construction project experience\nEducation\nAssociate's or Bachelor's degree preferred in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Controls, Controls Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
