This is what makes Konecranes a unique place to work.\nJob Description\nManufacturing Engineer\nCrane Manufacturing & Process Improvement\nLocation: Houston, Texas\nCompany: Konecranes\nPosition Summary\nKonecranes is seeking a driven and results-oriented Manufacturing Engineer to support the fabrication, assembly, wiring, testing, and commissioning of custom Engineered-to-Order overhead crane systems.\nThis position is responsible for improving manufacturing processes, optimizing production flow, developing work instructions, supporting quality initiatives, and driving operational efficiency across fabrication and assembly operations. The Manufacturing Engineer serves as the critical link between Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer and engineering requirements.\nSuccess in this role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work directly with production personnel to develop practical solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and delivery performance.\nKey Responsibilities\nManufacturing Process Development\nDevelop and maintain manufacturing processes for fabrication, welding, assembly, wiring, testing, and material handling operations.\nCreate and improve manufacturing work instructions, routing sheets, process documentation, and standard work.\nDefine labor standards and manufacturing methods to improve efficiency and consistency.\nSupport implementation of engineering changes and ensure seamless transition into production.\nEvaluate new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and tooling opportunities.\nLead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve throughput.\nProduction Support\nProvide daily support to fabrication, mechanical assembly, and electrical assembly teams.\nTroubleshoot manufacturing issues affecting quality, productivity, or schedule performance.\nAnalyze production constraints and implement corrective actions to eliminate bottlenecks.\nSupport Foremen and Superintendents in achieving production goals.\nParticipate in production planning activities and capacity assessments.\nAssist with resolution of technical issues related to drawings, bills of material, and manufacturing methods.\nWelding & Fabrication Support\nSupport fabrication operations involving structural steel crane components, girders, trolley frames, end trucks, and machinery structures.\nDevelop and improve fabrication workflows and fixture concepts.\nSupport compliance with AWS D14.1 welding requirements and company quality standards.\nCollaborate with Quality and Production teams to reduce weld defects, rework, and fabrication nonconformances.\nAssist with root-cause analysis of welding and fabrication quality issues.\nAssembly & Controls Support\nSupport mechanical assembly and electrical integration processes for custom crane systems.\nDevelop assembly methods that improve safety, ergonomics, and productivity.\nAssist production personnel in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues.\nSupport commissioning and factory testing activities as needed.\nWork with Controls Engineering and Production teams to improve installation and testing processes for PLCs, VFDs, operator controls, and automation systems.\nContinuous Improvement\nLead Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.\nConduct time studies and process evaluations to identify efficiency opportunities.\nAnalyze key performance indicators including labor productivity, first-pass quality, rework, and throughput.\nDrive cost reduction initiatives while maintaining safety and quality standards.\nDevelop and implement corrective and preventive actions for recurring production issues.\nPromote best practices throughout the manufacturing organization.\nQuality & Compliance\nEnsure manufacturing processes support engineering specifications, customer requirements, and company standards.\nSupport first-pass quality initiatives and reduction of nonconforming product.\nParticipate in root-cause analysis and corrective action activities.\nAssist in developing inspection plans and quality checkpoints.\nSupport compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and operational requirements.\nSafety Leadership\nActively support Konecranes' safety culture and continuous improvement efforts.\nIdentify opportunities to improve manufacturing ergonomics and workplace safety.\nParticipate in safety investigations and corrective action implementation.\nEnsure manufacturing processes are designed and executed with safety as a primary consideration.\nQualifications\nDesired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline.\n3+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in fabrication, industrial equipment, heavy machinery, structural steel, material handling, or engineered products manufacturing.\nStrong understanding of fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and manufacturing processes.\nKnowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, and process optimization methodologies.\nAbility to read and interpret fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, electrical schematics, and engineering documentation.\nExperience developing work instructions, standard operating procedures, and manufacturing documentation.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.\nProficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Office, and CAD software.\nExperience supporting AWS welding standards and fabrication quality programs preferred.\nOverhead crane, heavy equipment, or
