Role Purpose
The Solution Architect is responsible for driving harmonization and coordinating future development of modular, scalable, secure and future-proof solution architectures for Business Area Port Solutions. The role translates business, product and customer needs into practical technology solutions that support Port Solutions’ strategic ambition to deliver connected, automated, data-driven and lifecycle-oriented material handling solutions.
Acting as a key link between business stakeholders, product owners, software development teams, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, service and external partners, the Solution Architect drives architectural alignment across the organisation. Working closely together with Core Technology leadership within Port Solutions BA, you will help define architectural direction and help to ensure that solutions are aligned with business priorities, architectural principles, compliance requirements and long-term platform strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and Drive Solution Architecture
Own and evolve solution architectures for digital, software, automation, IoT and data-driven solutions within Port Solutions, ensuring alignment with business strategy and technology roadmaps.
- Translate Business Needs into Technical Solutions
Convert business, customer and product requirements into clear solution designs, architecture blueprints and implementation guidance.
- Ensure Architectural Quality and Compliance
Design solutions that are scalable, secure, maintainable and aligned with BA strategy, cybersecurity requirements and industry standards.
- Support Cross-functional Architectural Alignment
Collaborate across product management, engineering, software development, IT, cybersecurity, service and external partners to ensure consistent architectural direction.
- Guide Integration and Technology Decisions
Provide expertise on cloud, edge computing, connectivity, APIs, data flows, device management and system integration, balancing business value, risk and technical feasibility.
- Promote Harmonisation and Reuse
Drive standardisation, platform reuse and adoption of common architectural patterns to reduce complexity and long-term maintenance costs.
- Support Solution Delivery
Provide architectural guidance throughout concepting, development and deployment, including technical reviews, issue resolution and architecture governance.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Several years of experience in Solution Architecture, Software Architecture, Systems Architecture or a similar technical leadership role.
- Experience with industrial software, automation, IoT, connectivity, and equipment-related digital solutions.
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of:
- Solution and integration architecture
- APIs and data flows
- Identity and access management
- Cybersecurity and secure-by-design principles
- Operational technology and edge computing environments
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Familiarity with modern software engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines and containerisation technologies.
- Knowledge of industrial communication technologies (e.g. REST APIs, MQTT, OPC UA, WebSocket, DDS/ROS2).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to influence and build alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Strong collaboration and documentation skills.
- Customer-focused mindset with a balance of business, technical and operational considerations.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Considered an Advantage
- Experience in port operations, cranes, material handling equipment, automation, fleet management or industrial service solutions.
- Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity, and connected systems
