You'll work across the full billing lifecycle, developing features for subscription management, entitlement provisioning, usage metering, and CRM integrations, while growing your expertise in distributed systems and financial platform engineering. This role requires solid backend fundamentals, TypeScript proficiency, and a strong sense of ownership in a domain where data accuracy directly impacts revenue.\nWhat You'll Do:\nDevelop and maintain TypeScript microservices that support billing lifecycle management across self-serve and enterprise plan models.\n\nBuild and maintain integrations with payment processing and usage metering platforms for invoice generation and consumption tracking.\n\nImplement reliable event-driven features using Kafka or similar platforms to process billing state transitions, entitlement updates, and provisioning triggers.\n\nContribute to the entitlement enforcement layer that controls product access based on customer plan and contract state.\n\nWork on provisioning workflows that automate the path from sales contract events to live org configurations.\n\nCollaborate with senior engineers, RevOps, and finance stakeholders to deliver accurate and auditable billing behavior.\n\nWrite clean, maintainable, well-tested code with comprehensive unit and integration tests across financial workflows.\n\nParticipate in code reviews and design discussions, with a focus on correctness and operational reliability.\n\nMonitor service health and contribute to operational improvements for billing platform services.\n\nParticipate in on-call rotation to support the reliability of billing platform services.\n\nWhat You'll Bring:\n3+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services.\n\nStrong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js with experience building production services, ideally with NestJS or a similar framework.\n\nSolid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar) including data modeling and query design.\n\nExperience building or consuming REST APIs and working with third-party service integrations.\n\nUnderstanding of event-driven architecture patterns and message-based systems (Kafka, SQS, or similar).\n\nFamiliarity with distributed systems concepts including eventual consistency, idempotency, and failure handling.\n\nExperience with multi-tenant SaaS systems and awareness of per-tenant data isolation requirements.\n\nExperience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes in a cloud environment.\n\nSolid computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and system design.\n\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.\n\nDemonstrated skills using code repositories and collaboration tools (GitHub, JIRA, Confluence, or similar).\n\nExperience working with globally distributed teams.\n\nStrong debugging skills and ability to trace data consistency issues across service boundaries.\n\nBonus Points:\nExperience with billing or payment platforms such as Stripe, Chargebee, Zuora, or usage metering systems such as Metronome or Lago.\n\nFamiliarity with CRM-driven provisioning workflows or Salesforce event consumption.\n\nExposure to Snowflake or other data warehouse platforms used for business logic or contract aggregation.\n\nExperience with ClickHouse, Druid, or similar OLAP systems for usage and analytics data.\n\nKnowledge of subscription lifecycle concepts including trials, prorations, renewals, and credits.\n\nExperience building internal admin tooling for operational or support use cases.\n\nFamiliarity with AWS services (EKS, RDS, SQS, S3, or similar).\n\nKnowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.\n\nExperience with observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry).\n\nFullstack capable with experience building lightweight internal UIs.\n\nA genuine interest in systems where data correctness has real commercial stakes.\n\nExperience with Docker, Kafka, CDC, or Flink is a plus.\n\nAbout Kong:\nKong Inc., the AI Connectivity Company, is building the connectivity layer of AI.
