These processes play a significant role in achieving and maintaining the overall safety and environmental goals of the organization.Focuses on the relationships between people and their environment; promotes human health and well-being; and fosters healthy and safe communities.\nEnsure facility safety policies and procedures are in full compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal rules & regulations\n\nServe as ambassador of the Koppers Zero Harm Program both locally and at the corporate level\n\nExperience in developing and implementing safety programs and policies\n\nMaintain requisite files and records\n\nMentor/coach hourly employees at facility in safe methods and correct procedures for accomplishing daily assigned tasks\n\nParticipate in behavioral based observation program\n\nCoordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices\n\nAdminister the Safe Permit to Work program\n\nManage company safety policies and OSHA compliance programs\n\nEvaluate Health and Safety methods, policies, procedures and programs\n\nCoordinate and engage with the site Safety Committee\n\nExecute safety training\n\nEstablish and supervise an employee-based safety committee.\n\nManage OSHA compliance programs\n\nResearch regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices\n\nConfidentially handle records and follow policy on information release\n\nPeriodically inspect facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where needed and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.\n\nLead the investigation of accidents and injuries\n\nOrder safety gear and supplies for workplace\n\nStay up to date on state and federal health & safety regulations\n\nConducts emergency drills to gauge site & employee readiness\n\nConsult with site managers regarding the implementation of new safety procedures\n\nAddress any workplace-related health issues and accidents\n\nCompile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies\n\nOversee the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time\n\nCoordinate with Corporate Safety & Culture and Engagement in the onboarding process for newly hired employees\n\nConduct contractor safety training and assist in monitoring contractor work at the facility for safety compliance\n\nPerforms other duties as assigned\n\nCandidate Qualifications/ Requirements\nSHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) related degree or;\n\nOther college degree with 1-2 years SHE related experience or;\n\n>5 years relevant SHE work experience.\n\nHands-on work ethic with the proficiency to put the health and well-being of our employees, environment and community first in an industrial atmosphere\n\nComfortable managing/coaching/mentoring at the plant floor level\n\nPrevious work experience in the health and safety field is required\n\nExcellent organizational skills\n\nComputer proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint\n\nAbility to work in a team environment is a must\n\nStrong leadership, communication, and training skills\n\nAttention to detail and problem-solving abilities\n\nManagement experience preferred\n\nKoppers Inc. and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity employers.
