Learn more at www.kpff.com.\n KPFF’s Orange County Civil team is seeking a Civil Engineer-in-Training to join ourNewport Beach office. You will contribute to a variety of land development and site design projects while developing hands-on experience in grading, drainage, utility design, permitting, and construction documentation. Working alongside licensed professional engineers and project managers, you will have opportunities to strengthen your Civil 3D skills, participate throughout the project lifecycle, and take on greater responsibility as your experience grows.\nResponsibilities\nDevelop civil engineering designs: Assist with the planning and design of site development and infrastructure improvements, including grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, roadways, and related civil systems.\nProduce plans and technical deliverables: Prepare engineering drawings, exhibits, calculations, specifications, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering software.\nPerform engineering calculations and analysis: Complete design calculations and technical evaluations to support project development, incorporating applicable engineering principles, agency requirements, and project criteria.\nParticipate in field and construction activities: Conduct site visits to document existing conditions, gather information, and support design development. Assist with construction observations and coordination as projects move into the field.\nSupport permitting and agency coordination: Help prepare permit packages, respond to agency comments, and coordinate with local jurisdictions, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.\nApply codes and design standards: Incorporate California codes, accessibility requirements, local agency criteria, engineering standards, and construction requirements into project designs and documentation.\nWork collaboratively across project teams: Coordinate with engineers, project managers, designers, and outside consultants to address technical issues, incorporate design feedback, and maintain accurate project deliverables.\nBuild technical expertise: Continue developing proficiency in Civil 3D, engineering calculations, design standards, project documentation, and civil engineering practices while taking on increasing responsibility as your experience grows.\n Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering \nEIT Required\nRelevant experience in civil design, drafting, land development, site development, infrastructure, or related civil engineering projects. \nWorking knowledge of civil engineering and design principles, including site planning, grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, and water/wastewater systems. \nExperience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D for civil design and plan production; familiarity with HydroCAD or similar design/modeling tools is preferred. \nWorking knowledge of applicable California codes, local regulations, accessibility requirements, agency standards, and design/construction standards for site development projects. \nAbility to prepare accurate drawings, exhibits, calculations, and project documentation with attention to detail. \nStrong communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills. \nAbility to work both collaboratively with project teams and independently on assigned design tasks.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience supporting land development projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, or public infrastructure sites. \nFamiliarity with regulatory agency requirements, permitting processes, and construction documentation. \nEIT certification or interest in pursuing EIT certification is a plus, but not required.\nPhysical Demands and Work Environment\nAbility to sit or stand for extended periods while working on a computer, reviewing plans, or conducting site visits. \nCapacity to move around project sites, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain. \nOccasionally lift up to 15 pounds of equipment or materials. \nWork in our Newport Beach office 5 days/week, with flexible work hours between 7 am and 5 pm \n Compensation\nThe base salary for this role is competitive, with a range of $80,000 - $88,000, determined by experience, education, and skills. KPFF also offers performance-based bonuses to recognize outstanding contributions.
