In this role, you willbe responsible fordesigning, implementing, andmaintainingembedded firmware for sensor integration, power management, and communication interfaces used on these marine sensor platforms.\nROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nDesign, develop, and debug embedded firmware for microcontrollers and real-time operating systems (RTOS).\nDevelop andoptimizefirmware for real-time control, navigation, telemetry, and data logging systems.\nImplement robust communication protocols (CAN, RS-485, Ethernet, UART, SPI, I2C, etc.) for subsea environments.\nEnsure firmware reliability under extreme underwater conditions including pressure, temperature, and EMI.\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, and software) to support system integration and testing.\nConduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and diagnostics using simulators and lab environments.\nCreate technical documentation including firmware design specifications, test procedures, and user manuals.\nOccasionallyparticipatein field deployments and sea trials, providing on-site technical support and troubleshooting.\nQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE\nBachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.\n7+ years of experience in embedded firmware development using primarily C++ (bare-metal and RTOS).\nProficiencyin microcontroller architecture.\nExperience with real-time systems and low-level hardware interaction.\nExperience with version control software: Git, Gitlab\nExperience with Python for testing, scripting, and automating embedded system validation. \nFamiliarity with Agile/Scrum practices and DevOps tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Docker).\nFamiliarity with modern firmware development practices, including software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing and hardware abstraction techniques using mocks/stubs to simulate hardware behavior in software.\nExcellent time management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines in a high-paced environment.\nHighly motivated team player with excellent communication skills, initiative, superior problem-solving skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and willingness to learn and adapt.\nDemonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of projects from concept through deployment\nPREFERRED SKILLS\nProficiencywith ArmCortex-Mmicrocontrollers.\nExperience with subsea systems, AUVs/ROVs, or oceanographic instrumentation.\nKnowledge of underwater acoustic communication.\nFamiliarity with underwater or harsh environment electronics.\nEmbedded Linux development experience.\nNOTE\nMay require occasional offshore or field work aboard research vessels or deployment
