The individual will be responsible for assisting with the planning of survey field activities and supporting all types of survey activities, including periodic field work as needed. The individual will be responsible for leading and mentoring survey technicians and junior surveyors as necessary.\nResponsibilities\nLead and support business development for the Kuna survey team, including preparation of scopes, schedules, and budgets (proposals) for survey projects.\nProvides leadership for all types of survey research, computations, computer-aided survey drafting of topographic maps and plats and other project deliverables\nProvides written descriptions of land and parcels for deeds, leases, and other legal documents in accordance with local, state, federal and project requirements. \nWorks in a collaborative manner with the Kuna Director of Survey and Kuna General Manager to support the overall growth of the survey department.\nSupervises project field crew(s) and/or serves as field Party Chief of a one to two-person field survey crews in urban and remote areas of Alaska on an as-needed basis.\nAccurately run and adjust survey measuring instruments including digital levels, GPS equipment, and total stations with electronic data collecting capabilities.\nTake accurate and clear field notes and sketches; perform note reduction.\nUnderstand and identify basic sources of measurement errors.\nPerform mathematical calculations and check field data.\nPerform data reduction, field note reduction, calculations, data checks and staking computations using survey programs and AutoCAD. \nProject management duties including: quality control, project tracking from start to finish, client contact.\nPerform quality control checks on each project, including computations, field book formats and content.\nPerform project research, logistics and management, review plats and prepare legal descriptions.\nAdhere to the company’s policies, safety plan and the project safety plan.\nMentor survey team, including professional & technical oversight and guidance\nOther duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned. \nQualifications\nMinimum fifteen (15) years of survey experience in a wide variety of roles and positions, including at urban and remote locations.\nExperience with proposal development and building relationships to lead to business opportunities for the survey team.\nProfessional Land Surveyor (PLC) license is necessary.\nMust be proficient in the use of total stations, GPS receivers and data collectors, GPS reduction software such as Trimble Business Center.\nExperience in AutoCAD with demonstrated survey drafting skills required.\nAbility to read and understand survey drawings, plans & specifications.\nKnowledge of principles of monumentation, staking and marking.\nMust be proficient with MS Word and Excel. \nMust possess good interpersonal skills, and effective written and oral communication skills. \nMust be productive and positive working in both the field and office environments.\nAttendance, punctuality and reliability are essential requirements. \nMust be able and willing to periodically travel within Alaska. \nA valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.\nWorking Conditions and Physical Requirements\nWeather: Indoors/Outdoors - frequent exposure to moderate to harsh weather conditions. Requires most work to be done outside.\nNoise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.\nPhysical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.\nTravel: Employee will travel to remote areas and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.\nTravel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint.
