KWH uses innovative methods to complete jobs to the highest standards, in terms of quality, safety, cost efficiency, and value.\nReports To: Field Engineer / Project Engineer / Project Manager\nLocation: Issaquah, WA and other potential west coast + California job sites\nEligibility: Rising Sophomores and Juniors currently enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering program.\nWhy You'll Love This Role\nGenuinely hands-on - you'll be on active jobsites helping run real production, not just shadowing. \nLearn industry-leading tools: HeavyJob, Autodesk Forma, and Smartsheet. \n1:1 mentorship from Field Engineers, Project Engineers, and Project Managers. \nA front-row seat to how structural steel and other projects are built, start to finish. \nStrong potential path to a full-time Field Engineer I offer, after graduation. \nCompetitive pay: $25.00 - $30.00 hour, plus [housing/travel stipend if applicable]. \nWhat You'll Do\nHelp oversee steel erection activities alongside field engineers, project engineers, project managers, and field supervision team. \nJoin daily crew meetings to track the production schedule and confirm materials and equipment are ready. \nHelp review shop drawings, specifications, and project data to support quality and compliance. \nSupport the team in spotting risks to schedule, budget, materials, or process. \nComplete daily work plans and production planners. \nHelp track production, schedule, and budget performance, and log daily activity in HeavyJob and Autodesk Forma. \nSupport schedule updates in Smartsheet (or other approved tools). \nHelp keep quantity input and cost coding accurate for project financials. \nSupport the Project Manager with status reports and incident documentation as needed. \nCoordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and field supervisors. \nSupport quality control and assurance reviews, inspections, and documentation throughout the project. \nHelp plan and complete field layout alongside crews and engineering. \nGet exposure to erection plans, submittals, and design drawing development. \nHelp reconcile the closeout checklist with the owner's representative and field crews. \nLearn what it means to put safety and quality first on every jobsite. \nAs opportunities come up, get exposure to estimating - schedules, quantity takeoffs, and proposal review. \nWhat Your Internship Looks Like\nWeeks 1-2: Onboarding - learn the tools (HeavyJob, Forma, Smartsheet, and more), safety protocols, and how a steel erection crew runs day to day. \nOngoing: work alongside a Field Engineer on live production tracking, shop drawing review, and field layout - real tasks with real stakes, not busy work. \nBy the end: Walk away with a portfolio of real project experience, a mentor network, and - for strong performers - a conversation about a full-time Field Engineer I role. \nGood to Know\nYou’ll be on active jobsites - expect time on your feet, uneven terrain, climbing, and all-weather conditions, with PPE always required. \nTravel to project sites across the Western United States including Alaska may be required, with extended stays as needed. \nKWH promotes a safe and healthy work environment and provides appropriate safety and equipment training for all personnel as required. \nJob Type\nFull-time (summer), non-exempt. \nRequirements\nDesired Qualifications.\nCurrently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. \nNo construction experience required - prior internship or field exposure is nice-to-have, not a must. \nBasic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, or scheduling concepts (coursework counts). \nComfortable with Microsoft Office, excited to learn HeavyJob, Autodesk Forma and Smartsheet. \nCurious, eager to learn, and not afraid to ask questions on a jobsite. \nOrganized, detail-oriented, and a clear communicator. \nOpen to travel and on-site work at active project locations across the U.S. for the length of the internship. \nMust be eligible to work in the US.
