From long-range covert surveillance missions to search and rescue operations, our MX-series systems, and the mission systems solutions they are a part of, produce stabilized high-magnification electro1-optical and infrared images from airborne, marine and ground based platforms, enabling our customers to see first and act first.\nAbout the Role\nOur Mechanical Engineers are responsible for the design of highly complex opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical components from concept straight through to production. Although our work is driven by specific objectives, goals, and defined boundaries, we execute our work under wide guidelines\nPrimary Responsibilities\nEstablish short-term operational plans with measurable contribution to function or business area results.\nProvide technical leadership and support to the extended L3 Harris Wescam Mechanical Engineering team\nHold technical responsibility for the overall mechanical design integrity of all products designed at L3 Harris Wescam\nParticipate in all technical design reviews to ensure mechanical design integrity is achieved\nContribute to the conceptual design, detailed design and engineering validation of mechanical sub-systems and components as a team leader in reference to product design activities\nFoster career development of professional staff, and provide performance feedback through bi-yearly performance reviews.\nDevelop and maintain the Mechanical Engineering design processes and standards\nManage the selection of Mechanical Engineering tools to foster innovation and maximize efficiency of the product development process\nEstimate the cost and schedule of assigned mechanical work packages and validate work packages estimated by other mechanical leads/designers. Monitor actuals against estimate, and develop strategies to continually improve on estimate accuracy.\nMonitor mechanical design engineering demand via the engineering manpower database and provide recommendations for new hires to meet expanding demand\nSource and develop external mechanical design resources that can be utilized on demand to meet fluctuating resource requirements\nProvide mechanical technical support to other areas of the organization including Operations, Operations Engineering, Bids and Proposals, Sales and Marketing, and Export Compliance\nKeep in synchronization with Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical industry trends and new technologies that may be relevant to L3 Harris Wescam’s present and future product development\nAs required, provide management and technical leadership for NPI projects, including meeting cost and schedule objectives\nParticipate in department continuous improvement processes\nRequired Capabilities\nManagement and leadership knowledge in job area and comprehensive knowledge within professional discipline.\nCombined technical and interpersonal communication skills, project management skills and a proven ability to meet conflicting deadlines driven by varying stakeholders.\nProficient at problem solving using critical thinking and decisive reasoning\nKnowledge of opto-mechanical design principles & optical principles\nKnowledge of machining and optical manufacturing techniques and processes\nKnowledge of machining, casting, sheet metal, and composites manufacturing techniques and processes \nKnowledge of rapid prototyping techniques and methods\nKnowledge of Materials Science: Corrosion, composites, surface coating and conversion, reference mil spec \nExperience with CAD Design using SolidWorks\nRequires management and leadership knowledge in job area. \nTypically has comprehensive knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline and may have broad understanding of other areas within the job function.\nTechnical Proficiency in:Structural analysis - FEA, Thermal analysis - FEA & CFD, Vibration isolation and troubleshooting\nTesting methods - Vibration and thermal\nMotion systems - analysis, selection and design\n\nEducation and Experience Requirements\nBachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience, or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.\n*This posting is for a current vacancy.
