Desired experience with materials/materials systems is as follows: polymer matrix composites (epoxy and phenolic resin systems), ceramic matrix composites and polymeric materials, such as rubber and adhesives and aluminum, titanium and steel alloys. This position will report to the Manager, Materials and Process Engineering in Huntsville, AL.\nEssential Functions:\nUnder moderate supervision of the Materials and Process Engineering technical leadership team and/or Program Chief Engineer, apply knowledge of engineering and scientific principles to resolve materials related issues, utilize six sigma techniques, lean manufacturing process knowledge and sound decision-making principles to perform the following duties:\nSupport Parts, Materials and Process (PMP) requirements from customers; complete and submit PMP documentation (ADPMPL, NSMAR, NSMPAR, variances, etc) and subcontractor delivery requirements documents as required; support customer PMP Control Board meetings.\nSupport design process by providing material selection recommendations, creating material specifications, reviewing design drawings, reviewing manufacturing planning, providing supplier technical support and supporting Engineering Review Boards, Process Change Boards, Failure Review Boards and customer technical interchange meetings.\nDevelop test plans in coordination with Design and Analysis disciplines and characterize non-metallic materials; analyze material properties and develop design allowables per industry standards; summarize material properties and design allowable methodology in a written report.\nPerform engineering analysis of non-conforming hardware including coordination of analysis for disposition of Material Review Board documents. Maintain interactions with customers on materials obsolescence. Conduct project progress reviews during monthly program status meetings. Conduct failure analyses to determine root cause, document technical conclusions of failure investigations.\nProvide on-site support at L3Harris manufacturing facilities and supplier manufacturing facilities, as required, to assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving production related issues.\nCollaborate with Design and Manufacturing Engineers to develop robust manufacturing processes for various solid rocket motor components requiring long term storage and understand the fundamentals of general corrosion protection and galvanic corrosion mitigation for metal components.\nAbility to obtain a US secret security clearance.\nTravel:15% support work at suppliers and other enterprise locations.\nQualifications:\nBachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior material process engineering experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with a minimum of 0-2 years of prior material process engineering experience.
