The VAO SDV&T Engineering Department supports development and qualification testing of solid rocket motors (SRMs), motor components such as igniters and cases and controllable solids Divert and Attitude Control Systems’ (DACS). This position reports to the Manager of SDV&T Engineering located in Huntsville, AL. The Specialist Engineer will work with other engineers to conduct component and motor development and verification test planning and execution, ground test facility integration, and requirement verification reporting. The Specialist Engineer will support program testing from planning and estimating through testing and reporting phases. The Specialist Engineer will work in a team environment to support testing activities with all engineering stakeholders. The Specialist Engineer may lead technical tasks under the guidance of senior staff members. The Specialist Engineer may provide guidance to less experienced team members on a limited basis.\nEssential Functions:\nPerform test planning through the capture of all test objectives to create detailed test planning documents. Duties will include test development and control of ground test activities.\nIntegrate, develop and control special test equipment and test instrumentation. Duties include integration, analysis and control of test data and creation / delivery of the final test reporting. \nLead and control Test Readiness Reviews and ensure test articles and facilities meet safety and test requirements. Duties will include developing test facility requirements, providing directions and oversight for test component / motor integration and teardown activities and test article inspection plans and processes. \nInteract with customers and provide technical support as needed.\nSignificant test operations support will be performed requiring on-site test support.\nCoordinates project(s) or processes with general supervision.\nAbility to obtain a US Security Clearance.\nQualifications:\nA Bachelors' Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Systems Engineering or related technical discipline, and minimum 4 years of prior related engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.\nPreferred Additional Skills:\nCandidate should be self-motivated, maintain attention-to-detail, and have good interpersonal skills to work effectively in team environments both virtually and in-person. Demonstrated leadership competency and solid communication skills, in both verbal and written are required.\nEducational background and/or relevant working experience in rocket propulsion, heat transfer, aerospace structures, and dynamic systems and controls.\nKnowledge and experience with solid rocket motor components and systems, data analysis, systems integration and testing.\nExperience supporting integrated teams in a development & test environment.\nKnowledge and familiarity with test instrumentation, equipment and data acquisition.\nExperience supporting test planning and development of ground test activities.\nPreferred Graduate Degree in relevant technical discipline.\nIn compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Virginia is $80,500 - $149,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
