Interpret and implement zoning and subdivision ordinances, development-related projects, and the Comprehensive Plan. Coordinate short-term functions and long-term planning objectives to achieve goals. Provide professional-level technical support to the Director of Planning & Development.\nSUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED\nReceives general supervision from the Director of Planning and Development\n ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS\nReview routine zoning regulations, site plans, subdivision plats, and other development applications for compliance with City ordinances, regulations, and adopted guidelines.\nAssist with the review and processing of site plans, subdivision plats, rezoning applications, Specific Use Conditional Permits (SCUPs), variances, and other land use applications.\nPrepare routine staff reports, correspondence, presentations, and other materials related to development applications and planning activities.\nProvide zoning, land use, and development information to residents, applicants, property owners, and developers.\nAssist with the interpretation and implementation of zoning and subdivision ordinances, the Comprehensive Plan, and other applicable land use regulations.\nParticipate in pre-application consultations and coordinate with other City departments to facilitate the development review process.\nAssist with long-range planning initiatives, ordinance amendments, updates to planning documents, and special projects.\nConduct research, collect and analyze data, and assist in preparing technical studies and reports related to current and long-range planning activities.\nAssist with the preparation of amendments to zoning and development ordinances to support effective regulation of land use and development.\nAttend and provide staff support for Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, City Council, and other meetings as assigned.\nCoordinate with other City departments, public agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders regarding planning and development matters.\nMaintain accurate records and documentation related to development applications, planning activities, and departmental projects.\nPerform related duties as assigned.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nFor indefinite periods of time, the position may require mobility within an office and field environment; writing; walking; typing; twisting the body; stooping; bending; standing; squatting; sorting; sitting; seeing; kneeling; grasping; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 20 pounds; reading; filing; decision-making; reaching above shoulder level; speaking; interacting with the public; hearing clearly; communicating clearly and effectively; operating a personal computer, calculator, copy machine, and other office equipment; and operating a motor vehicle through City traffic.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nKnowledge of:\nPrinciples and practices of urban and community planning.\nZoning, subdivision, land use, and development regulations.\nSite plan, subdivision plat, and development review processes.\nComprehensive planning and long-range growth management principles.\nBasic research methods, data collection, and information analysis.\nGeneral relationships between transportation, land use, demographics, and community development.\nAbility to:\nReview routine development applications for compliance with applicable City regulations and guidelines.\nInterpret and apply ordinances, regulations, policies, and established procedures.\nResearch, organize, and analyze information and prepare clear, accurate reports and correspondence.\nCommunicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with residents, applicants, developers, City staff, and the public.\nAssist with planning projects, ordinance amendments, and long-range planning initiatives.\nIdentify issues requiring additional review or guidance and seek direction on complex technical or policy matters.\nEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with elected and appointed officials, department heads, City staff, other agencies, and the public.\nOrganize work, manage multiple assignments, and meet established deadlines.\nMake effective presentations and communicate planning information to individuals and groups.\n TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE\nA bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field of study is required. Zero to one (0-1) years of relevant experience is appropriate for this entry-level position. Municipal planning or development review experience is preferred.
