Who are we?

About LabCentral

Founded in the heart of Kendall Square in 2013, LabCentral is a network of shared laboratory spaces and scientific communities that serve as a launchpad for high-potential life-sciences and biotech start-ups. We deliver first-class facility and operational support, skilled laboratory personnel, and an expansive events program designed to add value to the community and promote connectivity - as well as the other critical services and support that early-stage companies need to begin start-up operations.

What is this role?

Do you take pride in providing stellar customer service and helping others learn how to use new systems? Do you enjoy triaging various requests to provide a quick and effective response? Are you good with details, thinking critically about processes, and flexing your investigative side?

LabCentral is seeking a Procurement Associate. Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, this role requires both organizational skills and desire to provide high-quality customer service.

You’ll be the best fit for this role if you have 1-2 years of experience in a business administration, supply chain management, and/or a related role focusing on customer support and purchasing/receiving. Bonus points if you dream of being the person who can save the day when a scientist needs an item ASAP and if you are genuinely curious why ethidium bromide is a banned substance in our facility! Hard workers, critical thinkers, organizational nuts, and Excel wizzes are encouraged to apply.

What will I do?

Responsibilities:

  • Place and track orders using our internal system, powered by Jaggaer
  • Provide timely assistance to residents for order-related inquiries
  • Validate, quality check, and process invoices from a variety of vendors
  • Collaborate with the accounting team on invoicing and documentation
  • Help complete the “life-cycle” of an order, from initial request to purchase order to invoice
  • Liaise with residents and vendors to solve order complications efficiently
  • Assist LabCentral in scaling its business model by automating processes to become more efficient
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and residents
  • Any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide to LabCentral’s values

What do I bring?

Desired qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience
  • Time management, organization, and decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Stellar customer service skills and anticipatory thinking to avoid issues before they arise
  • Ability to build relationships with vendors and residents
  • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Enjoy continuously learning, tackling whatever comes your way

What your first six months will look like:

  • Complete needed training on aspects of procurement, record keeping, and invoicing
  • Learn our systems and provide feedback on how to do things better
  • With the help of current staff, become a primary purchasing contact at one or more of our sites
  • Learn about our residents and their research
  • Continue to build your skills and set goals for personal and professional growth

Work environment:

  • Fully onsite during regular business hours
  • Ability to sit for long periods, ability to move around an office environment, and ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds

What do we offer?
