EHS Specialist II

Labcorp is seeking an EHS Specialist II to join our team in Shanghai, China.

Job Responsibilities:

• Maintains safety programs in areas such as biosafety, chemical hygiene, exposure control, radiation safety, ergonomics, and/or occupational health.
• Maintains EHS procedures, SOPs, and compliance documentation.
• Supports regulatory inspections, audits, and internal assessments.
• Tracks and closes corrective and preventive actions.
• Interacts with regulatory agencies, as requested by EHS Management.
• Leads EHS Committees and/or tasking such as fire drills or evacuations.
• Manages Safety Data Sheet inventory and/or prepare regulatory reports for air permits, wastewater permits, or hazardous waste reports.
• Conducts employee training, identifying, and managing EHS risks through risk assessments.
• Leads or co-leads incident, exposure, injury, and near-miss investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions tracking.
• Supports contractor safety and permit-to-work activities.
• Develops, conducts, and facilitates EHS learning programs.
• Delivers EHS training, laboratory safety briefings, and safety talks.
• Supports onboarding and staff refresher training.
• Updates chemical hygiene plans and proper storage, handling, and disposal practices as needed.
• Provides spill response preparedness and post incident follow up.
• Responds to hazardous chemical emergencies.
• Supports hazardous waste management, chemical disposal, and spill prevention activities.
• Implements waste minimization practices under the direction of the EHS Management.
• Provides first aid and CPR on an emergency basis, after certified training is complete.
• May provide waste management and respirator fit testing services.
• Leads workplace EHS inspections and audits.
• Identifies environmental aspects of site activities and conducts risk-based evaluations to determine impact on the environment.
• Evaluates EHS programs for compliance with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Assists with environmental compliance inspections, reporting, and corrective actions.
• Coordinates waste vendors and ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping.
• Participates in laboratory commissioning, modifications, and new activity risk reviews.
• Collaborates with EHS colleagues on multiple projects and interacts with site leadership and employees as needed.
• Promotes a strong safety culture through engagement with frontline staff and leadership.
• Tracks EHS metrics, incident trends, inspections, and audit findings.
• Prepares routine EHS reports and dashboards.
• Identifies trends and recommend improvements to reduce risk.
• May participate in employee diversity and inclusive groups.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Sciences or Technology
• 8 or more years of EHS experience
• In-depth understanding of country-specific regulatory requirements and technical standards relevant to assigned programs

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional experience in a laboratory or research & development environment.
• Professional certification in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Areas.
• Certificates in Radiology, Biological Safety, Chemical Management and Handling, or Occupational Health.
• Enrollment in continuing education and development is expected as a condition of employment if minimum education or certifications are not held.
• Proficiency in English

• Must have excellent verbal, written, and communication skills along with excellent interpersonal skills as to work with other team members, provide employee trainings, and present data to team leaders and site leadership.
• Have great problem solving/trouble shooting skills.
• Have strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in computer programs/software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
• Have the ability and competency to work individually and also in a team setting.
• Ability to work independently on routine and moderately complex EHS activities.
• Must have the ability to plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks with the ability to self-lead.
• Flexibility is key in this role as priorities change quickly. Must be able to move between tasks and projects on short notice and quickly change priorities based on customer and department needs, while meeting project deadlines.

• Sound judgment and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to influence and partner with clinicians, scientists, and support staff.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

• Able to wear personal protective equipment as required.

• Comfortable working in and around vivarium’s as applicable.
• Able to work at a computer as well as walk around location, entering laboratories and facility support spaces.
• Non-routine on-call, emergency response, if business needs.
• May travel to other Labcorp locations on an as needed basis; less than 20%.
