{"id":1631961,"url":"https://alion.io/job/lakesidecontrols-process-mechanical-engineer-senior","title":"Process Mechanical Engineer, Senior","company":{"id":2671375,"name":"Lakesidecontrols","domain":"lakesidecontrols.com","url":"https://alion.io/company/lakesidecontrols-2","size_band":"501-1000","is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"Dayforce","truth_index":null},"role":"Industrial Engineering","role_family":"Industrial Engineering","seniority":"senior","employment_type":null,"work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Mississauga, Canada"],"countries":["CA"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":null,"salary_estimate":{"min_usd":77000,"max_usd":145000,"period":"year","method":"role_seniority_country_remote_cell","sample_n":249},"experience_years_min":10,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-07-24T04:00:00Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-10-01","last_verified_at":"2026-10-04T02:48:51Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":71,"trust":{"level":"ok","repost_count":null,"flags":[],"days_open":71},"description":"What you will be doing in the role of Process Mechanical Engineer, Senior: \nHydrogen Process Design & Safety\n• Lead the process design of hydrogen production, electrolysis, compression, storage, refueling, venting, and distribution systems.\n• Develop process design packages including:\nProcess Flow Diagrams (PFDs)\nPiping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)\nProcess Descriptions\nDesign Basis \nOperating Philosophies\nControl Narratives\n• Develop and review:\nCause & Effect Matrices\nLogic Diagrams\nShutdown Philosophies\nProcess Safety Requirements Specifications\nFunctional Descriptions\n• Establish startup, shutdown, purge, venting, and abnormal operating strategies for hydrogen systems.\n• Define process control strategies and work closely with controls and automation teams to implement them.\n• Participate in commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and performance validation activities.\nProcess Safety & Risk Management\nParticipate in HAZOP, LOPA, and other process hazard reviews.\nDevelop and review safety shutdown strategies and risk mitigation measures.\nEnsure hydrogen systems are designed in accordance with recognized process safety principles and industry best practices.\n\nRegulatory Compliance & Engineering Governance\nServe as the technical lead for hydrogen-specific code and regulatory compliance.\nDevelop compliance strategies and support regulatory approvals, submissions, and variance requests.\nInterface directly with regulatory authorities, customers, consultants, and equipment vendors.\nEnsure designs meet applicable requirements including:\nCAN/BNQ 1784-000/2022\nOntario Regulation 214/01\nTSSA High Pressure Piping Requirements\nASME B31.3\nApplicable CSA, NFPA, and pressure equipment standards\nMaintain awareness of emerging hydrogen regulations, standards, and industry practices.\nCustomer & Technical Leadership\nAct as a trusted technical advisor to customers throughout project development and execution.\nSupport business development activities through technical consultation, proposal reviews, and customer presentations.\nCollaborate with equipment vendors and technology providers to evaluate hydrogen solutions.\nReview and approve engineering deliverables prepared by other engineers.\n\nMentorship & Continuous Improvement\nMentor and support the development of junior and intermediate engineers.\nShare knowledge and establish engineering standards for hydrogen system design.\nSupport continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering quality, design tools, and project execution.\n\nKnowledge and skills required for the role: \nBachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.\nProfessional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing.\n10+ years of experience in process engineering, industrial gas systems, chemical processing, fuel systems, hydrogen systems, or related industries.\nDemonstrated experience developing and reviewing:\nStrong understanding of process safety management principles and risk assessment methodologies.\nExperience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through commissioning.\nExcellent communication, problem-solving, and customer-facing skills.\nCandidates must demonstrate direct experience applying Canadian hydrogen and industrial piping regulations, including those outlined above.
