The position may also be required to testify in court regarding code violations and respond to after-hours inspections when emergencies arise. \nAt the City of Lancaster, we serve our community with PRIDE:\nProductivity - Take ownership of assignments and complete inspections, documentation, and follow-up accurately and timely.\nResourcefulness - Use available information and resources to identify practical solutions and improve service.\nIntegrity - Act ethically, apply requirements consistently, remain accountable, and be proud of the work that has your name on it.\nDedication - Serve residents professionally and remain committed to the success of the community and organization.\nExcellence - Work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and continuously strive for quality and improvement. \nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nPerforms a variety of code compliance inspections involving residential, commercial, and industrial properties.\nDrives to and from inspection locations and other destinations assigned by the supervisor.\nInspects and surveys public and private property for nuisances, sewage, trash, debris, unsanitary conditions, and other potential code violations.\nInvestigates citizen complaints regarding possible code violations.\nUses computer systems and available records to obtain information necessary for notices, correspondence, contracts, citations, and other code compliance activities.\nPrepares correspondence explaining applicable code requirements and identified violations.\nMaintains accurate records and reports relating to inspections, surveillance, enforcement activity, and follow-up.\nDocuments activities thoroughly and accurately.\nResponds to and assists with resolving citizen inquiries and complaints.\nCommunicates professionally and courteously with residents, property owners, employees, and other members of the public.\nTestifies in court, as necessary, regarding code compliance violations and related enforcement activity.\nMaintains assigned City vehicle and reports maintenance or operational concerns as necessary.\nMaintains communication after normal working hours in the event of an emergency.\nMust be available for after-hours emergency inspections when required.\nComplies with the City’s Code of Conduct and applicable Rules of Behavior.\nMaintains regular and reliable attendance.\nPerforms other related duties as assigned. \nEducation and/or Experience\nHigh school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate is required.\nThe successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to:\nRead, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations, technical procedures, and other professional materials.\nPrepare reports, business correspondence, notices, and other written documentation.\nCommunicate effectively with residents, customers, employees, supervisors, and groups.\nRespond professionally to questions, complaints, and potentially difficult or emotional situations.\nMaintain accurate, detailed, and organized inspection and enforcement records.\nManage multiple inspections, deadlines, follow-up activities, and priorities.\nApply practical problem-solving and sound judgment when situations do not have a single standardized solution.\nInterpret written, verbal, diagrammed, and scheduled instructions.\nPerform basic mathematical calculations involving percentages, area, measurements, and related concepts.\nMaintain professionalism and composure while performing enforcement-related duties.\nWork independently in the field while maintaining effective communication with supervisors and team members.\nCertificates, Licenses, Registrations\nValid Class C Texas Driver’s License is required.\nMust possess certification as a Registered Code Compliance Officer in the State of Texas, or obtain the certification within the first 15 months of employment. \nDriving is required as part of the position.\nThe position requires a pre-employment physical and is identified as a safety-sensitive position in the approved job description.\nThe City of Lancaster offer a complete benefits packeage to full-time employees which includes: health care;
