We are seeking an Electrical Engineer/Embedded Systems with expertise in embedded systems to support the development of new products and the enhancement of existing technologies. In this role, you will plan and lead medium-scale design projects in the key areas (embedded hardware, automation, and controls), guide technical teams, and contribute to the full product development lifecycle for electrical and electromechanical systems used in medical devices.
You will collaborate across functions, evaluate results, support proposals and cost estimates, and deliver high-quality engineering documentation and designs.
Core Responsibilities
- Apply expertise in embedded design and general knowledge in the field of electrical engineering.
- Plan and execute design and development assignments
- Deliver electrical designs through the full lifecycle-from concept to requirements, detailed design, verification/validation, and design transfer.
- Develop system and subsystem architecture and design requirements.
- Create electrical schematics, multilayer high speed PCB designs, and electrical cable/harness designs.
- Develop multilevel Bills of Materials (BOMs) and applicable engineering documentation
- Specify electronic components and power supplies.
- Develop and execute engineering test protocols.
- Produce technical reports.
- Maintain accurate documentation of designs, specification, processes, testing, and analysis.
- Perform failure analyses and prepare investigation reports.
- Conduct and participate in technical assessments and design reviews.
- Estimate resource needs and schedule work to meet timelines, specifications and costs.
- Provide technical guidance and coordinate work performed by Engineers, Technicians, and Designers.
- Evaluate progress against technical and project goals.
Additional Engineering & Collaboration Duties
- Provide training and technical support to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Escalate business-related issues when appropriate.
- Engage directly with customers for Voice of Customer (VOC) studies or technical troubleshooting.
- Interface with third-party contracting partners for engineering resource support.
- Work with third-party suppliers for technical services, component sourcing, contract manufacturing, or testing.
- Manage work schedules to align with project timelines.
- Work independently and within cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate closely with Software Development Engineers and non-R&D functions.
- Support suppliers, vendors, and consultants; participate in supplier visits and process-improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate testing with third-party labs (e.g., NRTL, environmental, HALT).
- Use complex engineering test equipment and general laboratory tools.
- Conduct experiments and troubleshoot designs in a lab environment.
- Apply electrical safety and ESD principles.
- Complete required training and utilize Fortive Business Systems tools.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned.
- Provide technical supervision and coordination for Engineers and Technicians.
- Standard scheduled working hours.
- Domestic and international travel may be required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5 years of embedded design experience
- Analog and high-speed digital circuit design
- Cadence/OrCAD Capture and PCB Editor or equivalent
- Proficiency with PSPICE and engineering simulation tools
- Firmware development with C, C++, JAVA, VHDL, and Python
- Hands-on experience with digital multimeters, mixed-signal oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
Preferred
- Master’s Degree + 3 years of embedded design experience
- PhD
- Understanding of project management principles
- Design for Manufacturing and Design for Testability
- Knowledge of Electrical Safety and Test Standards
- Domestic and international travel may be required.
