This individual will serve a key function in providing subsurface utility engineering and utility mapping services that combine technical knowledge, practical experience, and professional judgment to support infrastructure, land development, transportation, and utility projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to assist in leading and growing the SUE service line while managing projects, personnel, client relationships, and technical deliverables.\nJob Responsibilities\nAssist discipline leadership with the planning, budgeting, implementation, execution, and delivery of SUE projects and utility mapping assignments.\nManage, perform and oversee SUE field operations including utility designation and mark-out, utility mapping, coordinating sub-contracted vacuum excavation, and data collection activities.\nSupervise and mentor SUE technicians, survey personnel, and project team members assigned to specific projects.\nCoordinate, perform and direct electromagnetic locating, ground penetrating radar (GPR), GPS data collection, and utility mapping efforts.\nReview and interpret utility records, as-built drawings, utility atlases, engineering plans, deeds, maps, and aerial photography to support project execution.\nCoordinate field and office staff to prepare and/or modify work plans, utility mapping deliverables, CAD files, exhibits, reports, sketches, and utility conflict documentation.\nEnsure compliance with applicable SUE standards and best practices, including ASCE 38 and client-specific requirements.\nPerform quality assurance and quality control reviews of field data, utility interpretations, CAD deliverables and integration into other disciplines reports, and final project submissions.\nPrepare and review proposals, scopes of work, budgets, schedules, change orders, and project cost estimates.\nManage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining project budgets, schedules, resource allocations, and client expectations.\nMonitor project financial performance, prepare draft invoices, review project billings, and assist with payment collections.\nCoordinate with survey, civil engineering, geotechnical, environmental, and transportation disciplines to support integrated project delivery.\nMaintain and promote safe field operations through compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and industry best practices.\nEnsure proper maintenance, calibration, and utilization of utility locating equipment, survey equipment, GPS units, and related technology.\nAssist in recruiting, training, mentoring, and developing SUE personnel and future project managers.\nSupport business development activities including client relationship management, proposal pursuits, project interviews, presentations, and strategic growth initiatives.\nHelp identify opportunities for expanding SUE services and improving operational efficiencies.\nAssist with the development and implementation of procedures, standards, and best practices for the SUE service line; and\nPerform other duties as requested.\nQualifications\nHigh School diploma or equivalent required;\n6+ years of SUE experience in both the field and office;\nDemonstrated experience managing utility designation and mapping projects.\nStrong understanding of SUE principles and utility quality levels, including ASCE 38 standards.\nExperience performing and overseeing electromagnetic utility locating, GPR investigations, other forms of utility mark-out, GPS data collection, and utility mapping.\nProficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson, GIS platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.\nExperience preparing proposals, budgets, schedules, and project estimates.\nStrong understanding of utility records research, utility mapping practices, and utility conflict identification.\nProven ability to manage staff, coordinate field operations, and meet project deadlines.\nExperience managing project budgets and financial performance.\nAbility to effectively communicate technical information to clients, utility owners, contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nCommitment to safety, quality, and professional development.\nAbility and willingness to travel and perform field work when necessary.\nValid driver's license required.\nLangan provides a rich array of programs and benefits to help its employees advance their careers and enhance the quality of their lives. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm.
