Bringing this vision to scale, our fully in-house developed hands-free ADAS platform will debut on the all-new Ford Fathom in 2027. \nWhen you join the Latitude team, you’ll work alongside leading experts across machine learning and robotics, cloud platforms, mapping, sensors and compute systems, test operations, systems and safety engineering - all dedicated to redefining the relationship between people and their vehicles for millions of customers.\nAs a Ford Motor Company subsidiary, we operate independently to develop automated driving technology at the speed of a technology startup. Latitude is headquartered in Pittsburgh with engineering centers in Dearborn, Mich., and Palo Alto, Calif.\nMeet the team:\nThe Performance Prediction team builds the data pipelines, machine learning infrastructure, and evaluation systems that help us understand how autonomy behavior evolves from one software release to the next. Our software turns large-scale driving data into clear, trustworthy insights that help teams across Latitude move forward with confidence.\nOur work spans the full ML lifecycle, starting with the data. We curate high-quality training and evaluation datasets from real-world and simulated driving, discovering interesting and representative scenarios, labeling them at scale, and organizing them into reusable, well-documented collections. We turn that data into insight, helping engineers understand how the system behaves across a wide variety of driving situations and where the next opportunities lie. We train and ship a range of learned models, from compact classical models to modern deep learning approaches, and build the metrics, experiment tracking, and tools that engineers across autonomy use every day.\nThis role is a great fit for a software engineer who enjoys building reliable, well-tested Python systems and takes pride in producing ML results that people can trust. Day to day, the work is a mix of data and ML infrastructure, model development and evaluation, and internal tools used by partner teams.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nCurate datasets. Build pipelines that discover, label, and organize driving scenarios from real-world and simulated data into balanced, high-quality training and evaluation sets.\nBuild data pipelines. Design and maintain scalable, reproducible data pipelines with versioning, provenance, well-designed train/validation/holdout splits, and clear data contracts.\nTurn data into insight. Explore dataset composition, coverage, and label quality; characterize how behavior evolves across releases and scenario types; and share findings that help shape model, dataset, and autonomy priorities.\nScale ML infrastructure. Build training, inference, and evaluation pipelines that run smoothly at scale, with robust data loading, checkpointing, and experiment tracking.\nDevelop and ship models. Train, tune, and productionize learned models, from classical approaches to deep learning, and integrate them into automated analytics pipelines.\nOwn the metrics. Define, implement, and validate model and release metrics such as precision, recall, F1, ROC AUC, calibration quality, and task-specific metrics, with strong statistical rigor.\nRun thoughtful experiments. Set up baselines, ablations, cross-validation, and holdout comparisons; quantify uncertainty; and communicate results that help the team make confident decisions.\nBuild tools engineers love. Develop dashboards and services that make it easy to compare software versions, explore results at the scenario level, visualize model outputs, and gather feedback from reviewers.\nRaise the engineering bar. Design clean interfaces between data, modeling, and product layers; champion testing, type checking, code review, and fast, dependable CI.\nPartner across autonomy. Collaborate with autonomy, simulation, data, and infrastructure teams to take ideas from prototype to production.\nWhat You’ll Need To Succeed:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant industry experience (or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience).\nStrong Python software engineering skills, including designing modular, maintainable, well-tested systems in a shared codebase.\nExperience building end-to-end ML systems, from data pipelines and dataset curation through training, evaluation, and production, using tools such as SQL, pandas, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.\nExperience designing scalable ML infrastructure, such as training and evaluation pipelines, experiment tracking, model serving, or distributed jobs.\nSolid grounding in statistics and experimental design, including choosing evaluation strategies, metrics, and thresholds that support real-world decisions.\nClear communication and the ability to work effectively across software, ML, and autonomy teams.\nNice to Have:\nExperience with probabilistic forecasting, sequential, or graph-based models, as well as classical methods such as gradient boosting.\nExperience with calibration, uncertainty estimation, ablation studies, error analysis, or release-over-release comparison.\nExperience with data-centric ML, such as active learning, auto-labeling, embedding-based search, or dataset versioning.\nExperience with orchestration, experimentation, and internal tooling such as Dagster, Airflow, Ray, Weights & Biases, Dash, or Streamlit.\nExperience with Bazel or other large-scale build systems.\nAutonomous driving or robotics experience is helpful but not required.\nWhat we offer you:\nCompetitive compensation packages\nHigh-quality individual and family medical, dental, and vision insurance\nHealth savings account with available employer match\nEmployer-matched 401(k) retirement plan with immediate vesting\nEmployer-paid group term life insurance and the option to elect voluntary life insurance\nPaid parental leave and Adoption/Surrogacy support program\nPaid medical leave\nUnlimited vacation and 15 paid holidays\nDaily lunches, snacks, and beverages available in all office locations\nPre-tax spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care expenses\nPre-tax commuter benefits\nMonthly wellness stipend\nBackup child and elder care program\nProfessional development reimbursement\nEmployee assistance program\nDiscounted programs that include legal services, identity theft protection, pet insurance, and more\nCompany and team bonding outlets: employee resource groups, quarterly team activity stipend, and wellness initiatives\nLearn more about Latitude’s team, mission and career opportunities at lat.ai!\nThe expected base salary range for this full-time position in California is $179,200 - $268,800 USD. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
