A better future?\nWe're Lear For You.\nPRODUCT ENGINEER - MECHANISM\nSOUTHFIELD, MI - IN-PERSON\n\nAs a member of the Seating Structures team, the Product Engineer will be responsible for developing seat structure & mechanisms for a new automotive vehicle program. This engineer will work on-site at the seat system provider in Southfield, Michigan.\nThe Role:\nYour work will include, but not be limited to:\nLead the design, development, and engineering activities for assigned seat mechanisms from concept through launch.\nEnsure compliance of the mechanism design with all vehicle attributes, regulations, customer requirements, and specified program targets.\nWork closely with structures and seat complete teams on integration of mechanism(s) into seat system.\nUtilize disciplined engineering practices to deliver products with robust functionality, performance, and manufacturability.\nProvide product support to existing mechanisms in serial production to drive continuous improvement.\nCollaborate with Global Mechanism teams on new product designs / issue resolution.\nYour Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related degree.\nMinimum 5-7 years’ experience working with automotive safety mechanisms in lead role; preferably discontinuous / continuous recliners and/or seat latches.\nStrong mechanical aptitude and intuitive understanding of mechanisms, motion, and kinematics.\nExperience using mechanical design and analytical tools in mechanism development.\nPerform engineering analysis (stack-ups, calculations, and design studies) as required.\nIncorporate DFA / DFM principles in product design utilizing strong understanding of manufacturing processes.\nApply approved design guidelines, best practices and lessons learned into product designs.\nProficient in related computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, 3D CAD viewing. CAD modeling preferred but not required.\nSolid understanding of metal and plastic component design, as well as metal joining processes (welding, riveting, fasteners, etc.)\nWorking knowledge and application of GD&T principles.\nMechanism product launch experience.\nDemonstrated root cause and problem-solving skills using proven techniques.\nExcellent verbal and written technical communication skills.\nAbility to work independently and make sound, data driven decisions.\nOccasional travel required within the US and internationally.\nLear Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to a diverse workplace.\nApplicants must submit their resume for consideration using our applicant tracking system.
