Headquartered in Fredericksburg, Virginia, we serve clients throughout the Commonwealth and beyond\nPosition Overview\nLegacy Engineering is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with approximately 3-6 years of experience to join our Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) team.\nThis position is ideal for an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) who has developed a solid foundation in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing and is looking to continue growing professionally toward PE licensure. Licensed Professional Engineers are also encouraged to apply.\nWorking closely with our Geotechnical Principal Engineer and experienced technical staff, you will support geotechnical investigations, engineering analyses, construction inspections, and materials testing projects.\nWe are looking for someone who enjoys a combination of office-based engineering and hands-on fieldwork, can take ownership of assigned tasks, and is ready to develop additional technical and project responsibilities over time.\nKey Responsibilities\nGeotechnical Engineering\nAssist with planning and coordinating subsurface investigations, including soil borings, test pits, and drilling operations.\nEvaluate subsurface conditions, soil classifications, laboratory results, and field investigation data.\nPerform geotechnical engineering calculations and analyses under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer.\nAssist with preparing geotechnical engineering reports, including foundation, earthwork, pavement, and site development recommendations.\nSupport field investigations, construction observations, and evaluations of soil and foundation conditions.\nCoordinate with project managers, engineers, field technicians, and laboratory personnel.\nConstruction Materials Testing and Inspections\nProvide engineering support for construction materials testing and special inspection projects.\nReview field inspection reports, laboratory test results, and construction documentation for accuracy and compliance with project specifications.\nAssist with evaluating soil compaction, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials testing results.\nSupport field technicians in addressing testing issues, construction concerns, and technical questions.\nParticipate in site visits and communicate findings to project teams.\nProject Coordination and Technical Support\nAssist the Principal Engineer and project managers with project scheduling, coordination, and technical deliverables.\nSupport preparation of project proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.\nCommunicate with internal teams, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders as needed.\nMaintain accurate project documentation and assist with meeting project deadlines.\nTake on increasing technical responsibilities as experience and capabilities develop.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.\nMinimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, or a combination of both.\nEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.\nWorking knowledge of soil mechanics, subsurface investigations, and construction materials testing practices.\nAbility to interpret engineering plans, specifications, field reports, and laboratory test results.\nStrong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.\nAbility to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating with senior engineering staff.\nValid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.\nPreferred Qualifications\nApproximately 3-6 years of combined geotechnical engineering and CMT experience.\nEIT certification with an interest in pursuing PE licensure.\nExperience preparing or contributing to geotechnical engineering reports.\nFamiliarity with construction inspections, foundation evaluations, and earthwork operations.\nExperience with geotechnical engineering software and engineering calculations.\nFamiliarity with ASTM testing standards and applicable construction inspection requirements.\nBenefits\n8 Paid Holidays\n15 days of PTO\nComprehensive Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage including a low cost employee medical option\nHSA and FSA plans available\nEmployer paid Short Term, Long Term, Life and AD&D Insurance plans\n401k plan with up to 5% match\nContinuing education and certifications provided\nAnd many more great benefits including numerous sponsored company events\nThe compensation range for this position is $75,000 to $115,000/annually, commensurate with experience, education and certifications.
