effectively preparing materials and resources before work begins; collaborating with operations, maintenance, contractors, and vendors; and thoroughly tracking maintenance activities.\n\nResponsibilities & Duties:\n\nMaintenance Planning & Scheduling\nDevelop detailed maintenance job plans including scope, labor requirements, estimated durations, tools, parts, equipment, and safety requirements.\nConduct field walkdowns to verify job scope, identify hazards, confirm accessibility, and determine resource requirements.\nPlan and coordinate maintenance work to minimize downtime and maximize workforce efficiency.\nDevelop long-range shutdown, outage, and turnaround maintenance plans.\nTrack planned versus actual work performance and identify opportunities for improvement.\nMaintain job plan libraries, preventive maintenance records, and equipment history within the CMMS system.\nEnter and maintain maintenance information in Aptean EAM or other maintenance management systems. \nSafety & Compliance\nIdentify required permits and safety requirements for maintenance activities, including hot work, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout procedures.\nDevelop and maintain Standard Job Procedures (SJPs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and Master Plans.\nIncorporate OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements into all maintenance plans.\nPromote and support a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all SSC safety policies and procedures. \nMaterials & Resource Management\nCoordinate sourcing and procurement of maintenance materials, equipment, and services.\nDefine, reserve, requisition, and track materials required for upcoming work.\nCollaborate with Purchasing and Central Stores to maintain critical spare parts inventories, reorder points, and obsolete inventory management.\nMonitor parts availability and vendor lead times to support scheduled maintenance activities. \nContractor & Vendor Coordination\nCoordinate contractors and outside service providers for outages, inspections, and major maintenance projects.\nDefine scopes of work and ensure contractors comply with site safety and operational requirements.\nBuild and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and service providers. \nContinuous Improvement & Team Collaboration\nWork closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Electrical departments to coordinate maintenance activities and resource needs.\nParticipate in reliability initiatives, PM optimization efforts, and ISO quality programs.\nAnalyze maintenance results and incorporate technician and supervisor feedback into future job plans.\nTrack and improve maintenance performance metrics, including schedule compliance and planner effectiveness.\nProvide support and leadership within the Mechanical Department as needed, including supervisory coverage during absences. \nGeneral Expectations\nSupervise Mechanical department during absence of Mechanical Supervisor\nReport to work as scheduled\nRespond to call-ins when required.\nAdhere to and enforce all Policies and Work Rules\nComply with all SSC Safety rules\nAll other duties as assigned\n\nExperience/Education/Skill/Knowledge:\n\n5+ years working as Mechanic or other related position \nPrevious job-planning experience\nAbility to effectively read, write, understand, and otherwise communicate in English \nWilling and able to learn, retain and apply new information\nPossess knowledge of basic maintenance Mechanical tools & process \nAble to effectively read Blueprints and plans \nMicrosoft Office proficiency and ability to quickly learn new software required\nKnowledge of SSC Rod Mill beneficial\n\nPhysical Demands:\n\nAble to work in extreme temperatures (hot & cold) while wearing required PPE\nMobility to move to any area of assigned location (Rod Mill and/or Melt Shop)\nStrength and stamina to remain on feet for majority of 8-12-hour shifts\nWalk up and down stairs safely\nLift up to 50 pounds occasionally\nCommunicate effectively in verbally and in writing \nDexterity to efficiently use keyboard \nDexterity to operate necessary mechanical tools/instruments/machinery\nOrganized and able to follow through on multiple projects simultaneously \n\nTool/Machines/Equipment Used:\n\nComputer\nAtean, Outlook, Word, Excel\nMaintenance related tools/instruments/machines\n\nBase Salary Range:\n$85,000 - $140,000\nSterling Steel employees receive a base salary plus production-based incentive pay.\nThis is a good-faith estimate of the salary range of this position.
