The Fiber Test Engineering Support Technician performs comprehensive testing and evaluation of fiber optic cables, connectors, and advanced connectivity solutions to ensure product quality, reliability, and compliance with industry standards. Accurately document, analyze, and communicate test results to engineering and product development teams, providing critical data to support innovation and product improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams to troubleshoot testing challenges, identify root causes of equipment or process issues, and recommend effective solutions. Utilize industry-standard testing methodologies, including TIA and Telcordia requirements, along with specialized equipment such as IL/RL meters, force testers, endface geometry measurement systems, fiber inspection tools, modal explorers, and environmental chambers. This position offers the opportunity to work with next-generation fiber optic technologies, collaborate with innovative engineering teams, and contribute directly to the development and qualification of products used in critical network infrastructure worldwide.\n What Will You Do?\nCarries out test plans following standard testing procedures for existing and new product designs for both internal and external customers. \nCreates, maintains, and presents test reports with summaries and analysis. Maintains continuous communications with design staff regarding test progress and results. Provides recommendations to engineering design staff for design improvements.\nDesigns test fixtures and test setups as necessary.\nTroubleshoots testing methods/setups when needed. Recommends improvements to test methods and procedures, as needed. \nMaintains lab equipment and equipment certifications.\nInitiates and facilitates the ECN (engineering change notice) process.\nPerforms first article requirements checking and first production evaluations.\nUtilizes agency (UL, TIA, CSA, IEC, etc.) publications and requirements.\nPerforms other similar and related lab or testing duties as required.\nWilling to travel if necessary, typically less than 10%. \n Education:\nTypically requires an associate degree or equivalent experience.\nExperience:\nTypically requires 1-3 years of related experience.\nSkills/Knowledge/Abilities:\nKnowledge of optical fiber connectivity.\nMust have strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software, e-mail and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively. LabView and SolidWorks experience preferred.\nIL/RL testing, endface geometry, visual inspection of connector endface. \nFiber termination and polishing, fusion splicing.\nRequires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be-able-to effectively handle multiple priorities. Must possess project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control a-number-of projects at various stages of work.\nMust have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be-able-to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
