The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and improvement of new and existing products. These activities must support the company's goals of increasing market share and profitability through creativity and innovation.\n Work with the Marketing Product Line Manager to develop the product specification. Gain consensus on design with marketing and manufacturing. Determine the appropriate codes and standards, testing requirements, end user preferences and trends, and competitive product analysis.\nCreate sketches, 3D files and prototype designs to express all the different options that are used to satisfy the product requirements. Evaluate these concepts to choose the best design based on customer requirements. Create final 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using Pro-Engineer and other CAD software to refine, develop and finalize the design.\nResearch, read and understand competitive patents, work with patent attorney to avoid patent infringement.\nWork with patent attorney to protect Pass & Seymour's intellectual property by obtaining patents.\nRefine and complete product design through modeling, prototyping, testing, analysis, piloting, and inspection of processes and first articles. Work closely with Advanced Manufacturing, Tool Shops and Manufacturing to procure prototype and production product components.\nProduce and update necessary documentation to support production including engineering drawings and specifications, bills of materials, and quality requirements and testing.\nManage projects to rapid and effective completion including spanning departmental gaps.\nPerforms other similar and related duties as required.\n Education:\nMinimum BS Mechanical Engineering degree. Specific experience may serve to offset education.\nExperience:\n5-10 years relevant experience. Has obtained general industry experience that complements a broad base.\nSkills/Knowledge/Abilities:\nMust have broad understanding of Engineering principals, materials and manufacturing processes.\nMust demonstrate creativity in the development of new product design concepts.\nMust possess excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control a number of projects at various stages of work.\nStrong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.\nMust be proficient with engineering design and engineering project management software.\nRequires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.\nMust have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.\nPosition Attributes:\nCAD: Have functional ability to produce CAD solid models and 2-D drawings.\nDocumentation: Produce ECN with BOM and Drawings to support existing and new design line expansions\nManuf. Process: Suggest product design improvements for improved assembly efficiency.\nManuf. Process: Suggest machine improvements to aid in product reliability and design for manufacturability.\nQuality Systems: Design quality Check gages\nProduct Testing: Devises and gains approval to perform specialized lab mechanical tests. Directs lab on exactly what and how to setup tests.\nProblem Solving: Innovates technical solutions for existing or new product designs. Provide guidance to engineer I, and other designers.\nProblem Solving: Resolves Product Complaints with consultation from senior engineer.\nProblem Solving: Serve as primary on-site technical representative of critical product complaints with assistance from other department engineers.\nSelf-Direction: Priorities are set from department managers and Senior Engineers. Manage their own workload and coordinate with others. \nSelf-Direction: Drives new designs through the development system. Is responsible for the schedule progress of the project.\nProject Leadership: Calls project meeting after approved subject matter from manager or senior engineer. Serves as lead presenter at some project meetings.
