Distribution Engineering Manager

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Manager who is passionate about electric utility design engineering to lead and oversee a team within our growing Power Distribution Engineering organization. This role will be responsible for leading distribution engineers and designers in the development of construction work packages for electric distribution systems, while providing technical oversight and QA/QC for both simple and complex engineering projects.

The team will utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems to develop high-quality work packages in accordance with client and construction standards. The Distribution Engineering Manager will also oversee activities such as developing bills of materials (BOMs), cost estimating, forestry trimming requests, permitting and Right-of-Way acquisition, easements, and Customer Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) calculations. This role will work directly with clients, provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team, and ensure Leidos’ reputation for high-quality work and customer service is maintained.

Location: This position is based in Framingham, MA with a preference for candidates who can work in the office 3-4 days per week. Remote work may be considered for an exceptional candidate, with the expectation of periodic travel to the Framingham office for team meetings, collaboration, and other business needs. The selected candidate must be available to travel to the Framingham office on an as-needed basis.

As a Distribution Engineering Manager, you can expect to:

• Provide technical oversight, direction, and support for project teams.
• Function as client point of contact and liaison on project-related issues.
• Collaborate with other design managers on broad client issues including schedule adherence and team quality control
• Oversee and manage existing capital, reliability, and customer project work for clients: Customer project work may include reconductors, voltage conversions, load swaps, circuit rebuilds, DOT relocations, DG integrations, and new, large customer development feeds (OH & UG).
• Facilitate client & team collaboration and communication; managing resource loading based on clients demands.
• Track scope, schedule, and budget for projects in flight
• Oversee QA/QC for your design team
• Monitor team performance metrics
• Track and report financial metrics
• Partake in Hiring efforts for your team, as well as participate in activities that will drive professional development for designers and engineers in your organization

What Sets You Apart (Required Qualifications):

• Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical or Mechanical preferred) from an ABET-accredited institution; Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• 8+ years of prior relevant experience is required OR 6+ years of relevant experience with master’s degree.
• Demonstrated Experience leading engineering personnel
• Proficient knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and comprehension of client construction standards.
• Successful project management experience (initiate, plan, execute, monitor & control, closeout)
• Strong communication skills, written and interpersonal communications skills.
• Collaborative and inclusive of individuals of diverse backgrounds and geographic locations.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and provide leadership to other team members; Ability to work effectively in teams.

You Might Also Have (Preferred Qualifications):

• Experience with software such as PoleForeman, AUD, GE Smallworld, Maximo, STORMS, EAM, or similar products.
• Experience with complex projects in distribution design: using medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, distribution automation projects.
• Experience with development of civil & electrical packages associated with complex cable/conduit in dense urban environments.
• PMP certification and/or PE license
