Join us to make a significant impact on the future of transportation through innovative research and development.\nThis position is contingent upon contract award.\nAs a Graphic and Web Designer, you will transform complex transportation research and emerging technologies into clear, engaging, and accessible visual experiences across print, web, and digital channels.\nThis is a multidisciplinary design role for someone with strong graphic and visual design skills who also has experience in UX/UI and web design. You’ll create everything from presentations, publications, infographics, and event materials to websites, digital experiences, wireframes, and user interfaces.\nYou’ll collaborate directly with communications professionals, engineers, researchers, and project teams to understand complex technical concepts, identify audience needs, and determine the best way to communicate information visually.\nThese initiatives support the USDOT and their Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS JPO), Highly Automated Systems Safety Center of Excellence (HASS COE), and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).\nLocation: This role will be expected to work full-time at the customer site in McLean, VA\nCandidate MUST:\nBe currently located in the United States for the current three consecutive years and be eligible for a Public Trust Clearance.\nPrimary Responsibilities Include:\nVisual and Graphic Design\nDesign high-quality visual communications across print and digital channels, including presentations, reports, fact sheets, infographics, diagrams, social media graphics, event materials, signage, proposals, and other communications products.\nTranslate complex technical, research, and data-driven information into clear and compelling visual stories for technical and nontechnical audiences.\nDevelop creative concepts, visual identities, brand guides, and design approaches for projects, campaigns, events, demonstrations, proposals, and other high-visibility initiatives.\nCreate and maintain templates, design systems, standards, and reusable asset libraries that improve quality, consistency, and efficiency across projects.\nApply strong principles of typography, layout, information hierarchy, composition, and visual storytelling.\nDevelop production-ready materials for digital, print, large-format, and other applications.\nUX/UI, Web, and Digital Design\nDesign intuitive and engaging websites, landing pages, portals, and other digital experiences.\nDevelop wireframes, page layouts, user flows, prototypes, and interface concepts based on user needs and project requirements.\nApply user-centered design and information architecture principles to improve navigation, content organization, usability, and overall user experience.\nUse Figma or comparable tools to develop, prototype, and communicate digital design concepts.\nDesign and build content within content management systems and digital collaboration platforms such as Drupal, SharePoint, Google Sites, or similar platforms.\nDevelop reusable digital components, page templates, and design patterns that support consistent and scalable user experiences.\nCollaborate with content and technical teams to translate communications, business, and user requirements into effective digital solutions.\nIncorporate responsive design and accessibility requirements, including Section 508 and WCAG principles, throughout the design and development process.\nCommunications and Creative Support\nCollaborate with communications professionals, researchers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to develop integrated communications products and solutions.\nRecommend creative approaches based on communications goals, audience needs, technical requirements, and project constraints, and clearly communicate design concepts and recommendations.\nIncorporate stakeholder feedback while maintaining design quality, usability, accessibility, and brand standards.\nManage multiple assignments and shifting priorities while meeting project schedules and quality expectations.\nSupport onsite events, demonstrations, meetings, and other activities requiring visual or digital communications support.\nStay current on evolving design, web, accessibility, and emerging technologies and practices.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Design, UX/UI Design, Interaction Design, Multimedia, or a related discipline with 4-8 years of relevant professional experience.\nDemonstrated experience developing presentations, publications, infographics, diagrams, digital graphics, and other information-rich communications.\nProficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.\nExperience designing and building websites, digital products, or other interactive experiences using Drupal, SharePoint, Google Site or other comparable CMS tools, Figma, or comparable UX/UI design and prototyping tools.\nStrong understanding of UX/UI principles, information architecture, responsive design, user-centered design, typography, layout, visual hierarchy, and visual storytelling.\nAbility to translate complex technical subject matter into clear, accurate, accessible, and engaging content for a variety of audiences.\n Demonstrated experience applying Section 508 and WCAG accessibility requirements to digital and visual communications products.\nExcellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate design concepts and recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.\nStrong collaboration with demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.\nGrowth- and solutions-oriented mindset, with demonstrated initiative, creativity, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and approaches.\nFlexibility and adaptability to manage multiple activities, respond constructively to feedback, and adjust to changing priorities and deadlines while maintaining quality.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools, particularly PowerPoint/Google Slides, Word/Google Docs, and SharePoint/Google Sites and Google Drive.\nAbility to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance (which includes three years of immediate residency in the U.S.).\nPreferred Qualifications:\nUnderstanding of or experience in the transportation industry, engineering, automated vehicle technologies, Cooperative Driving Automation, intelligent transportation systems, or emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.\nExperience working with federal, state, or local government clients. \nPay Range:\n$90,000 -
